Re-gearing necessary?

I plan on getting a 2008 KC SE I4 4x2 this summer and I want to put a leveling kit on it so I can fit 33" All-Terrains on it. I'm curious what effects that will have on the drivetrain. I've read a little bit about re-gearing for bigger tires since you effectively lose power but I'm curious if anyone has any information on the effects of not re-gearing. Will I get better or worse gas mileage? I know it puts undue stress on the tranny in uphill situations where you need power. My truck will almost never see off-road situations and all this modification is for asthetics only. Anyone feel like helping? I haven't been able to find a gearing kit for the 2005+ Frontiers but I did find a calculator and it suggested going from the stock 30's to 33's means I need to re-gear to 4.10ish

Or you can do an axle swap but on an 08', it would void part of the warranty and cost a pretty penny. Maybe gears will be out in a couple of years.

If your going to lift a truck and want a regear and want the reliability of a Nissan, buy a Toyota instead, because there are tons of axle, ring and pinion + hundreds of more mods out there for yotas than Nissans. I bought my nissan for to keep stock and use as my company truck, I have an old yota for wheelin' ...

Where? A quick look at the chart at Superior Axle and Gear suggests that to get back to normal RPMs I'd need to regear to 4.1's... However, even if I stayed with the stock 3.7's I'd still be within operating range. I would just be at lower RPMs and therefore get better gas mileage but less power. Since most of the driving will be flat highway or city driving I'm not too worried about the loss of power but I don't want to blow the transmission. I can't believe they don't have gears yet...

I wonder if they use 3.7's in the (four banger) SE's. Cause XE's have 3.7's with the little tires, and the (four banger) SE's I think come with the same size tires as the 6cylinder guys.....

I woulda thought nissan would have re-geared it to make up for the tire size.

Its true, the XE's come with 235/75R15's (28.8 inches) and both the 4-cyl and 6-cyl SE's come with 265/70R16's (30.6 inches). I found this website Nissan Frontier Specifications and Capacities that details the final gear ratios. According to this, my SE would be running a 3.133:1 ratio since its automatic transmission. With help from the chart from Superior Axle and Gear that shows I'm already lacking power, right? Sheesh this is confusing...
