gears for nismo offroad axle

ok this is for general discussion but keep the thread on topic , please dont post up if u really dont have anything to contribute to the thread

ie lets try these off this and see if they will work , questions are fine but pertaining to gears in "production" or current gears on the truck

While installing the 3.69 carrier into my axle i found that this carrier fits very tight in there with no room to shim from side to side

Superior is supposed to be coming out with gears for the m226 now does anyone know if they tested on an m226 open diff or one with a locker because i have a feeling the guys who want gears for the m226 with the locker will not be able to ,due to not being able to set the gears correctly

sorry penski1 if this isnt a contribution to the thread---more of question about your post---but your saying and as we all know the gears for m226 were shaved down to fit with locker right? and new gears probably wont fit correctly unless they made gears to fit m226 with locker right?

sorry if this isnt a contribution but since they dont have enough room to shim back and forth. I have been wondering if it's possible to get a drill-bit and smooth down the outer-insides around the gears so they have more play. By taking out the gears and or taking a rubber hammer and a metaL sheet formed to the inside of your m226 you could lighty hammer the the inside to maybe a qauter of an inch wider then like toyniss said and possibly shave down slightly soem of the edges you deem fit.

What he's saying 3.69 is tight in there, so any bigger gears are going to have problems fitting. His 3.69's fit fine.

no no no i meant for his 3.69's to be able to shim back and forth better, within the axle. Not that his doesnt fit he was saying they do but it is a tight one and i was explaining a simple possible solution. He was saying that i believe.

i think your replying to toyniss's post not mine oops

well we already knew the gears would fit the front diff since all the 2nd gens have the same front diff!
thanks penski1 for again making and showing us one more possible upgrade(s) for those that may want to switch from 3.35 or whatever up to 3.69's.
im sure bigger gears are going to have a tough time fitting locker diff hence the reason 3.69's or even 3.53's for that matter were shaved down to fit with locker, also the reason there probably arent any gears out for these trucks yet!

looks like we may be stuck with what we got. either swap axles or do the atlasII tcase swap. cause regearing for bigger tires may be out of the question.

i dont know much about gears, but are lower ratio gears bigger in diameter than higher ratio? penski1 you could probably answer that from looking at the difference of the 3.69's to 3.53's?

its not really the size of the ring gear thats gonna be the big issue its the pinion size , like i said before you have no room to move the carrier side to side , so im guessing if the pinion gear is bigger you would need to shim the carrier over more to one side so they mesh well , if you cant move the carrier your out of luck , but hey hopefully im wrong in thinking thats how u have to setup the gears , and theres no way im shaving or drilling anything in there

thanks for your input. only time will tell, but what you just said may be the reason there arent gears out yet, it could be such a tight fit with our carrier that not feasible to get anything in there thats bigger if thats whats needed to get lower ratio gears. hopefully they will figure something out someday, or we'll all be doing axle/sas'd swaps, or buying a different rig for wheeling.

well i went from 3.35 to 3.69 no difference in size just once less tooth on the 3.35 than 3.69 , but i would imagine there is a diff in size between 3.69 and the lowest option from superior 4.56

yea, its not really a size thing, its all about the tooth count on the drive gear and on the corresponding drive pinion. For example 49/12, 48/13, 47/16, 47/15, 47/14 all could be the same size ring but produce differant gear ratios.
