driveshaft/rear diff

So, looking under my truck, I noticed a half dollar sized spot on the garage floor. swept the floor, put my truck back in and there's a spot again (also checked where I park at work and there are a few spots).

the rear diff is wet at the front end of it (kinda where the driveshaft connects). I cant seem to find anything about that area in the service manual.

any ideas?

I'd like to try to take care of it myself (well, I think I'd be helping my step-father but...) rather than having the dealer fix it, I just need to know what parts to get (assuming it's just a seal).

powertrain is 60k right? might this be covered? maybe I'll call the dealer tomorrow but answer anyway just in case

Also, some 285/75/16's will rub (with stock wheels) with a 2" lift, some will not. (Please stop asking this 6x a week and in every tire thread.)

Yes that would be covered under the powertrain warrenty.

I would take off the lift before going in.

NO, youll need a puller to pull the yoke, and mark the nut and pinion gear so youll have a refference when tight. with the yoke off, pop the seal with a flat screw driver and use a suitable tool to seat the seal, I use a old hub bearing race on jag diffs and tap around till square. the reassemble torquing the pinion yoke nut till the marks line up. top off diff lube and remember the driveshaft and youre done. Thats the short of it, I cant go out and look at mine to tell you for sure since Iam in Atlanta right now till weds.

thats what I'm thinking. I have to go to the dealer's body shop this week (hopefully) anyway to pick up a tailgate hinge that's broken so I think I'll call the service department tomorrow and try to set up an appointment.

its like anything. Commen sense and take your time and anything is possible. Rear pinion sears are only painful getting the main securing nuts loose.
However if your under warranty then get the stealership to do it .

oh and another thing a lift wont affect the seals ability to seal, since its only sealing rotational forces and nothing else. Angle of driveshaft has no bearing on it and wouldnt know if it was pointed up to the bed, matter of fact if it was pointed at the bed it wouldnt be leaking. And only the tech knows your lifted, not Nissan

Called the dealer, they're going to do it thursday afternoon. (I described it to them, told them what I thought it was and they said they would have the parts in hand when I show up.).

I imagine they're going to top off the diff fluid...it's got redline in there right now. I think I have some left, think I should bring it and have them put that in? (or will they likely not want to use it if I bring it?)
