Add Me to the "Broken Front Diff" Club

So on the weekend I decided to go and play in a small off roading area on my way to the grocery store for only about 10 minutes. And being the super smart guy I am I didn't bring my winch with me!

I endend up sliding back down a muddy hill into some ruts sideways and got stuck. Normally I would just pull out the winch and away we go but that wasn't an option. Started rocking the truck back and forth in low with the rear diff locked. I was making some progress and could feel that I might actually get out. I was working the truck pretty hard though and then heard a few "pops" then a final louder "bang" and then lost 4x4. I opened the door and could smell gear oil right away and new it had to be my front diff. Another truck came along and pulled me out. I was only 2 miles to the Nissan dealer so drove it in.

I just got the call from the dealer today and my diff housing cracked right open! They have ordered a whole new diff and will be repairing it under warranty (thankfully I didn't have to fight with them about this).

So, once again I learned the valuable lesson to NEVER go 4x4ing without ALL of my gear (winch, hi-lift jack, boots, jackets, gloves, etc). I also learned that the front diff on the Frontiers is not all that tough, although I already knew that from this forum.

Sorry no pics, I was too busy swearing and cursing at myself for my stupidity!

The Titan diff is defiently the way to go. Only catch is that you will probably have to pay for the V8 Pathy axles to go with the Titan diff so that you don't have to do a complete Titan swap.

...and if you happen to have the correct gear ratios (which the OP does)

I made sure I checked that before I posted, lol. The only thing we didn't do is add a link to the axle sticky and the Titan Diff Sticky.

sorry to hear but not to be an arse but sure sounds like it broke due to being pretty rough on it-you said it yourself. anyway good thing fixed under warranty, next time bring your gear and be a bit easier on it. also a good reason never to wheel by yourself!
