I ask cuz I always use conventional oil and change every 3 months regardless of miles. well in December I changed to Quaker state Torque power, and now maybe just in my head but it sounds like im hearing a slight whine....
I dont think it matters if you use synthetic on my 1st motor I used only Amsoil andd the 2nd motor just regular old castrol and both started the whine between 30-35k

Quite a few guys have been posting about the reliability of the new guides. I was out on the weekend with a guy who had the cam chain guides replaced on his VQ35 at around 45000 miles. He hasn't had any problems yet at 110000 miles. Sounds like the new ones might be better. He runs a Castrol synthetic.

I'm at 35000 on my 2006, no problems yet. Mobil 1 synthetic since new.

I can't remember if I posted in here earlier or not but I am at 47k and change and still going strong. Mobil 1 since first oil change.

Of course I also said my paint wasn't peeling back when Bwarren had problems.......

My 2005 Frontier had this problem and prompted a lemon law lawsuit which I won. I gave Nissan a 2nd chance with a 2006 Frontier and at 30,000 miles it to developed the timing chain issue. After fighting with the dealer both were fixed under warranty. I just hit 61,000 miles on my 2006 Frontier and the same high pitched whine is back.

Since I am out of warranty I doubt Nissan will do anything for me. Anyone know if I HAVE to fix this? Will something else go wrong if I don't?

So that is 3 timing chains in 90,000 miles for me. I doubt I'll buy another Nissan.

Greg

I posted this in the fixed under warranty thread as well.

Quote:
I am getting my secondary timing chain tensioners done for the second time (they have to order the parts). The first time I got it done Nissan had not issued the updated parts, so I essentially got the exact same defective (but new) parts installed. I've complained about the whine coming back the last couple times the truck was at the dealer and they kept saying it was fine. Both sets of tensioners have lasted less than 30k each.

Nissan does not care about it's customers or quality after your standard warranty is up. You should strongly consider this if you plan on purchasing a Nissan.

I realize I am coming into this thread late, but How do you know if you have problems? I have an 06 purchased in Colorado with 54000 miles and don't hear any loud whining (except maybe the wife when I drive too fast). What are the other symtoms of this?

That is pretty much it, as far as I have read. It would be a whining sound that changes with the rev of the engine, like a supercharger. I know there are video clips people have posted that you can hear it.
