Is there a way that Nissan will gp ahead and replace new timing belt, etc even if it hasnt occured yet? I will be up on warranty in like 8k miles. I would hate for it to happen once I go over.

As one of the people who have experienced and gotten this problem fixed, I take offense to this. I'm sorry, but I didn't feel like recording a whining noise on a video camera, so does that mean I'm a liar and it's all in my head? Why don't you talk to the techs at my dealership who replaced all the parts I listed in my other post in this thread for free because it was a warranty repair. I had witnesses including my father comment on the noise without me even bringing it up, saying it sounded like I was supercharged or had added some sort of mod, or like something was rubbing...so yes, this problem is real, and instead of naysaying it why don't you just realize that you are lucky to not have had this 'fake' problem (which, by the way, is a tsb on the nissan website, fake??? no.) I don't mean to bash, I just don't understand why you can't believe it if there are a few trucks with discussed issue. That's like if someone put a poll up about who has an actual lemon, and 2/150 people say they do, but since it isn't proved via video or what have you, you would have to say that no, in fact, that is not true. Thanks for listening, please be a little more considerate next time.

mine started at 35k miles. I was also pssed that someone had the nerve to say the problem does not exist. Check the TSB that is out for it. Consider yourself lucky you don't have the problem. The noise is there and frankly it is annoying.

timing chain issue
I'm not sure this is the same as the whining issue in the engine bay but I was having that noise. I took it to the dealer for a recall, the door locks, I had them check the noise, it is the timing chain. They're replacing is under warranty, I have 30k on my 05. we'll see what it's like when I get it back today.

I have an 07 with the VQ40 with about 8K miles on it (had it for 10 months). At about 3k miles I noticed a whine coming from the engine that sounds almost like a supercharger whine. It seemed to do it more in cold weather. Now that it's warm outside again, I have only noticed it once. Is this the timing chain issue? What happens if you DON'T get it fixed?
Oh, and I got the 5 year 100,000 mile warranty when I bought the truck. Lastly, isn't this VQ derived from the VQ35 that's in Muranos, Altimas, Maximas, etc.? I mean, it was my understanding that this VQ was just basically bored, stroked, and recalibrated for truck use (relatively more torque). Is the timing chain problem found in those engines as well? Because the VQ35 has consistently been voted "best V6" (or at least one fo the best) by almost every car reviewer out there (MotorTrend, Car & Driver, Road & Track, etc.). Is getting this fixed a "want" or a "need". Do people get it fixed because the whining annoys them, or because your timing assembly can fly apart???? ![]()
