I don't know what your talking about. So I went to my dealer and asked a couple different mechanics and they didn't know what I was talking about. They have always been up front with me before. I have 70,000 on my 06 in 15 months.
no freaking noise.... 30k. Any of you guys with the so called "problem" please post a video with audio or I'm not buying it. Look at this poll. As of right now theres 66 to 6 people that had a "noise".

There is nothing to 'buy', there is a documented TSB from Nissan on the issue and some have had this problem. It has also been discussed qa fair bit here and on other forums. Please feel free to do a little research.
The poll may also be slightly skewed as many of us don't have much mileage on our vehicles yet. Regardless, 8-10% is rather high.
You 2008 guys may be happy to know the site doesn't have the TSB posted for the 2008 model. Maybe they implemented the improved guides on the production line for 2008.

No problems yet for my 06 with 32k, but I did just buy it 2 months ago. Is there any way short of going to a dealership to find out what work has been done on it under warranty (maybe previous owner had the problem)?
My concern about this is, is it a given that all timing chains and guides were bad, or was it just some that were bad? IE, will some of us never have problems and some unfortunate ones have to deal with this? It seems like if they were all bad or had a flaw, that by now, a much higher percentage would be having the problem. Was thinking it could be one supplier of parts (assuming they have more than one) that was sending bad ones, and that might only account for a certain percentage of vehicles. If this were the case, would make it very hard for a recall considering I am sure they have no idea which vehicles got which parts.
As far as my truck goes, I don't drive it all that much, like 6-7k a year. So I will remain under the 60k by the time the 5 years is up. I just hope that if anything does happen, it will be before then.
Some of the Techs have posted it's simply the way it was engineered, and it is potentially inevitable. And for those that have it, around 30k seems to be the common number for it to occur. Yet there are numerous trucks with far more mileage and no problem. So we are still trying to establish that 'X' factor... and maybe there isn't one. Maybe it's luck, maintenance or a combination of the two. If it wasn't for Nissan seeing fit to release a TSB about it, I would chalk it up to just hard luck for a few owners.

"Installing redesigned chains (Part No. 13028ZK00B, two required) and chain tensioners (Part No. 13070-ZK01A, bank 1; 13070-ZKOlB, bank 2) should eliminate the noise in short order.
Models that are susceptible to the problem and can benefit from the updated valve timing parts are 200406 Altimas; 2004-07 Maxima sedans and Quest minivans; and 2005-07 Pathfinder, Xterra & Frontier trucks."
42k miles on my '05 and no problems. i drive it hard so i would think i am a poster child for engine problems......
knock on wood....happy so far.
