I just had my timing chain guide replaced at 47k on my 05 nismo. I never noticed the whine, i always blast the radio, but when i took my truck in for another problem they noticed the whine and recommended replacing guide. They said it was a problem part for the 05 model that nissan sent a bullitan about. Unfortunatley when I got it back it drives worse now. There is a delay in the throtlle when I accelerate after slowing down or stopping. It feels like soemthing is not engaing or is late to engage when I step on the gas or if i shift from forward to reverse (AT) or vise versa. BTW what's "TSB"? I think I missed that part of the discussion.
Looks like the dealer where you got the work done messed up. Just take it back and have them fix it.
When I got mine done, the AC stopped working. So I took it back the next day and they fixed it right away. Thet just forgot to connect some piping or switch from the AC line

Interestingly, on the official Nissan TSB site ( Nissan Publications ), I no longer see 'NTB07-042a covering the VQ Engine Buzzing Whining Noise From Timing Chain Area'.

Thanks. I figured I'd save a copy in case I have the problem someday. I sometimes hear an intermittent rattle from the engine bay upon startup, especially if the truck has sat for several days. Only 15% have had this problem, so I'm hoping that the odds are in my favor.

You're welcome. I'm hoping the same thing.

I just bought a used 2005 with 81k on it and I am finding alot of problems with it. I just repaired the radiator that leaked coolant into my tranny. I hear the timing chain whine, and the dealer quoted me $1700 to replace the guides. I want to replace them myself but I'm worried that I need the special tool to hold the crank pulley steady when breaking the bolt. ughhh... I didn't expect to spend this much money to own a newer truck.
