Transmission/radiator cross contamination

I am going to try and set up a poll for this problem. I would like for everyone who has had this problem show up vote in the poll to let us determine just how large or small this problem actually is. I am going to split it among the Xterra, Frontier, Pathfinder and Other. It must be a Nissan product, however.

I have not had this problem, but there have been two Xterras at my local dealership with this problem. I voted for one of them and would like someone else who has not had a problem to vote for the other one. Neither of these people are on this forum so they will not be able to vote in this poll. Thank you for anyone that will oblige me on this request.

You might also check with your dealership to see if there have been any reported cases and which model it occured on. Thanks and maybe we can see if there is enough of a problem that nissan might do a recall on it..

It would be helpful to know the year and mileage also. Maybe just post it up.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Nissan to do a recall. Usually these actions take prodding from the Gov't over safety issues, and lawsuits over cheap production. If you do a search, there is a lawyer listed in a thread about representing people looking to join in a class action lawsuit about the cross contamination issue.

Yea, there's a lawyer, but thanks for doing the poll. I haven't had the problem, but only have 27k mi. I'd like to know if it has anything to do with miles driven, age of truck or just bad luck.

I put the other Xterra on the pole for you.

Thanks for the help. I was hoping that there would be more people posting their problems here.

I guess that this is not as bad a problem as it appeared in the thread on this topic. Not much ammunition to go to Nissan with.

I know someone with an Xterra that just had this happen to them. Not sure of the model year but she had 94k miles on hers. I just did the bypass this morning and noticed nothing that looked like coolant coming from the portion in the radiator with transmission fluid. I blew it out by mouth through the hose attached, held my finger over the other end and all looked to be tranny fluid. I did the coolant and trans flush at 70k but didn't do the work myself. I did notice my coolant low yesterday, which I've never checked, that raised my concern of where did it go then. Any thoughts?

Old Pic still similar exterior but with Tint

I put a post up with the details on mine. While mine was in the shop, they had two others come in, a frontier and a xterra. So, I have 1st hand knowledge of 2 frontiers and 1 xterra.

Since the "repair," it seems like OD hasn't shifted quite right. Still hoping for total failure prior to extended non nissan warranty expiration.

I haven't yet decided if I should join in the class action suit or not. I am about 50/50 on the decision.

Thanks to those who have responded, but I must admit I am a little disappointed in the low numbers. I thought it was a major problem from the posts I was reading.
