Just playing around with HDR as i am new to that!

Aloha from hawaii everyone!

Not sure if you can do this or not, but i didnt take 3 different pictures, i shot this one pic in raw and in photoshop i saved 3 versions...

I figure since its raw it will give the same effect?

Anyways, I know the picture isn't anything that great, but just wanted to know what you all think...

Its fun making 15mb jpegs :P

Here is the orig version, again, just shot a tree to see what i could do with it to get a feel for Photomatrix Pro

Tell you one thing, the detail from my new 50mm f/1.7 lens is just crazy

Find a scene with more dynamic range. The first picture is simply superior in every way to the second.
Would you post your methodology? Are you using exposure bracketing, or running it all off of one RAW? What software?

You're using Photomatix Pro you said right?
You need to run the resulting merged image through the tone mapping for sure, that would correct everything properly. And don't be afraid to "tweak" the sliders after it jacks out the correctly tone mapped image, sometimes you can gain even more improvements with a good eye and patience.

Also, I always start with multiple images shot off a tripod at different exposures. A couple stops up, a couple stops down and one as the camera meters it. Three images work pretty well when merged. I know some people use up to ten exposures for merging.

Here's some of my experiences and a few images I shared a while back. Maybe you'll find some helpful info in that thread?

Check out this site, it is one of many I go to for inspiration on HDR stuff. Some get that really processed look, some are much more realistic to life.
HDR creme - share, look, vote.

Yeah...you need a picture that will benefit from over/under exposure. Your palm tree pic is nice as is!
