Camera Shopping (Help?)
EDIT: SLR DIGITAL CAMS
I'm shopping on http://shopbig.com/digital-camera/1.4,15,25/search-html I don't know if this is the best place to search for a reliable >$300.00 camera. Any Photographs in CF that can help me out here? I'll be new at this(amateur), that's why i plan on keeping my limit around $300.00 for a camera. This will be my first digital camera. I will probably have to give up the scanguage II and a CB radio...but im sure the digital camera will be worth it. I find that the best prices are on |

I would stick with good brand names such as Canon/Nikon/Fuji/Olympus...etc. One important thing is to get a camera that you can 'grow' into. Look for one with manual control options like aperture priority/shutter priority/full manual mode.
Look for good noise control at high ISO(try a picture at ISO 800/1600 and see how it looks if you can in the store). Also try out the auto-focus, see if it works well in low light. Some point and shoot cameras have better flash performance as well...some are quite weak and only good for a few feet, so look into this as well. Maybe check out Cnet... http://reviews.cnet.com/?tag=hd_ts They seem to have accurate information in an easy to navigate website.

I too am shopping for a new one. I think we are going to go w/ Canon, forget the model number.
Our quick saga goes - Canon got stolen by the cable guy - replaced w/ a Panasonic which got dropped by the 6 yo after 6 days of ownership - replaced that one w/ a Olympic which was dropped and broken by my wife after 2 weeks of ownership. Ugh. I am thinking durability is going to be something I look at this time. Good luck shopping.
