Backcountry Backpacking

This weekend, myself and two friends from work, will be doing a four day backpacking trip, in The Maze District, of Canyonlands National Park here in Utah.

Not my picture, but a friend of mine.

It is said to be some of the most remote, rugged country in the lower 48, and was some of the last country to be mapped. The area is full of Indian ruins, petroglyph's, and archive sites. Not to mention the countless arches, not even named, and awesome slot canyons. Still, it is pretty rugged, and secluded. The drive in will take about 4-5 hrs from the pavement.

It all should make for some hopefully great pictures. I will be taking the Xterra, instead of the Frontier. The X is setup a little better for the terrain. Although the fuel consumption is a little worse, but I will be bringing 10 gallons of extra fuel, which should be sufficient.

WOW mate!
Sounds like an awesome trip, will be definitely looking forward to your photos.

Terrain looks similar to the Kimberleys in the far north west of Australia.

Of course. I am testing some equipment for work also. They purchased all new Garmin 60CSx GPS', which we will be using, with National Geographic mapping software.

Also testing some new sleeping gear, and satellite phones. Should be fun.
