Ute Tray

Hello again,

Here are a few pics of the tray I had installed last week............for those contemplating getting one.

This model has a steel frame and base with aluminium tray and sides.

I also ordered it with a steel under draw system that I will use to hold my tools, recovery gear, and some camping items etc.....

Company was Fleet Trades in Camberfield and pricing was:

Tray 1749 including fitting
Draw 880 including fitting
Rear Tail Lights, tail light protectors and side steps including fitting 165

All the best, Ozroder

Hey ozroder thats a sweet tray man. Don't see many on the road here. My old man is in the process of making his alloy tray atm. Taking him forever tho. He's designed his similar with alloy utility boxes on the sides. Sweet idea with the slide out drawer, might have to run the idea past him probably something he hasn't thought of.

Thanks for the kind words...............yes the draw will be a blessing when offroad.........no need to pull everything out to get at the recovery gear or tools anymore and it lifts the tray up 5' or so...........which will be help for river crossings...............it really is well made...........tray is just so much easier to load and unload to...............Steel frame gives lots of strength............definiteley well thought out.

All the best, Ozroder

I like it. Looks good and that tray is pretty killer. Not even sure if those are legal here in the US, but I would consider one.
Useful and defiantly something different.
What is the weight of it compared to the stock setup?

I am only guessing but I believe with the draw it is 150kg.............not sure what the original tub ways but I think it is around 100kg

That is really cool, especially that drawer in the back! I'd get one.

nice drawer, they seam to be getting popular. i have a pull out ramp instead.

don't know why guys like the alloy decks tho. look ok but not very practical.

a couple things i see...
no bars for the rear window, very easy to smash the window.
no pins on the tail/side boards, you will curse that when one drops on your foot (found that out the hard way !)
not sure what the rollover bar is made of, we have had problem with alloy ones flexing and hitting the body.
not a fan of alloy floors, very slippery. makes it difficult to tie a load on especially when wet.
i hate alloy sides, most flex to much. know of accidents due to load coming off due to the sides flexing in and load slipping out.
to get good stiff sides etc in alloy you have to sacifice a lot of space due to the bigger tube required.

i like the locks, nice and simply far better than the crap i have !

I did not elect to get this util I fit the camper when I get back in November

Tail side boards have circlips instead of pins

Stainless Steel and while not worth a **** in a rollover, it will definteley handle a decent load if you add the rear tradesmens bar option as well.......or if you wanted to run those lights on the top like the Americans do.

not a fan of alloy floors, very slippery. makes it difficult to tie a load on especially when wet........dont know about the floor being slippery as there are small ribs that project up approx. 1.5 / 2mm every board width

i hate alloy sides, most flex to much. know of accidents due to load coming off due to the sides flexing in and load slipping out.

Sounds like they did not tie load down properly

This unit has a steel frame so zero flex

Me too................

got a close up pic? that sounds real good. i would dearly love to fix the other trucks side boards.

interesting, haven't seen any of those. all the ones i've seen here are just flat alloy. most of ours are wooden, even the alloy decks. a rep said in Aus they are all alloy.

neighbour has one. we usually take the sides off for some of the loads. you can't tie anything hard on it because the sides simply bend in. a few locals have had theirs replaced because they buckle the sides tieing things on. its like trying to tie things on with bungy cords. hit a big bump sides bend in, load slips off or hooks come off.
put a tie down across the middle of the deck and winch it up and see how it flexs
mind you i've bend the solid steel rope rails on mine quite a few times (cheap nasty deck) there is a lot of force on them.

not really a problem if you only use a cover or take the sides off to fit a camper.

its not so much the frame but the actual sides. if anything an alloy frame would be ok. its the sides, front and back that needs to be thin and stiff. underneath has heaps of room for bulky alloy bars so thats not a problem.

now all you need is some matching storage containers behind the mud flaps

Hello Tweake, now I understand what you mean............I thought you were referring to the tray base itself flexing cause my one is steel...........

Yes the side boards will flex for sure............although my tray is much shorter than the one you have in your avatar..............so these would be a bit stiffer.......

Its dark here now but I will put up a few picks of the tray flat top and the ciclips tomorrow if you want.............
