Tub Liner and Rust - Beware

Hi All,

I pulled my tub liner out on the weekend and found that there were spots of rust all over the floor of the tub. My Navara is white so it was very easy to see the rust. I have only had it for 6 months, so I'm glad I caught it early.

What caused the rust - well that's easy! When the twats at the dealer fitted the soft tonneu cover they did not bother to clean out the tub after drilling the holes. They left the filings in the tub and put the tub liner in on top of them. Of cousre, the water and damp got to it and it corroded. Fortunately I have managed to scrape off all of the rust and polish the marks out of the paint.

Anyway, can't say I'm too impressed with the efforts of my local dealership (now I know why I decided I would fit the bull bar and snorkel myself!). Just thought I would make mention of it so that people are aware of the potential problem.

Cheers

that was the 1st thing i did after getting my ute home was remove the liner.....why?

i washed out the tray as it was full of dirt, crud and surface rust from new and then compressed air dried, waxed and fish oiled the entire tray before refitting the liner,

also i greased all the load rail bolts as they rust very easy!!

I also found crap in the tub of mine from new and the oly thing I could think of is from when they installed the sports bar.I installed my tub liner only cos I couldnt get anyone to respond when I rang them about a spray in job..When I get time I will pull it out and see what greets me.Any damage from design or fit would be Nissns problem surely, I mean why else would we buy over priced gear from the manufacturer if not for the warranty.

oh yeah good idea bout the fish oil Jay
and lastly SYDNEY SUX !!!!

just a personal opinion after working here for 3 months

It's great to see I'm not the only one that has paid Nissan some hard earned money for a crap job.

There are a couple of reasons I pulled the tub liner out

1. Because I need to get the right hand side of the tub replaced after an altercation with a fence post (found the weak spot that you don't want to hit )

2. I wanted to give the tub a bit of rust protection after reading an article about tub liners. I was planning on spraying all through the tub with lanolin and using lanolin grease on and of the fittings/bolts to help prevent rust.

If it weren't for the fence, I probably would have delayed pulling the tub liner out and then who know where I would have ended up.

One thing I am thinking of doing in to fit some rubber grommets back into the drain holes in the TUB as I will be fitting a canopy when I put the liner back in so there should not really be any way for water to get back under the tub liner. Thoughts ??

Cheers

After doing some reading I went for the spray on liner. I cant say they did a very good job of it but must say I am impressed with the product its self.

Is the hate Sydney club by invitation only or can anyone join

the quality of the spray liners comes back to the person doing it,same as work at dealers, good ones are few and far between,as for the i hate sydney club, the best place their is emu plains,in the mirror as your going up the hill.
