could well be the electrical connections on the pump. (check your main earths as well).

i would pull battery off for 1/2 hour to clear all the codes and test again.

if its coming on with when messing around with fuel lines etc i wonder if its got another air leak somewhere. it may be sucking in enough air into the pump to upset how it does the timing. however i would have thought with any airleak pumping the filter primer wouldn't go hard for at least a few pumps. mind you it can happen where pressure on the seals makes them seal but put vaccum on and it will leak (ie acts like a one way valve).

was that after the motors been running or straight after the changing of fuel lines etc?

it should go hard 1-2 pumps if no work has been done to it. if you have changed filter/pipes then obviously it will take longer.
if its 4-5 pumps normally, then you have air leak somewhere.

It took 4 to 5 pumps to go hard after the engine had been running.
I just got home from a 300 km round trip. The light did not come on at all.Not even when I took an exit from 100 kmh and came to idle at lights.Lately it normally sets it off when this happens.
I just went and pumped the primer. Its been several hours since the engine was switched off.It took 4 and a half pumps togo hard.

Why dont rig up a separate fuel tank 20L or so , just before the filter and run the return and cycle it at least you will know if your problem is at the front or rear of the fuel system , But it does sound like you are sucking air

When you do rig up the fuel cell, bypass the filter and and primer unit, use a good quality EFI filter and try using it that way just in case its the primer valve itself is the problem with sucking air , to then prime the system up use compressed air to force the fuel forward once you have flow its primed

I would not be to concerned about 4 pumps this is quite normal on most diesels

What have Nissan done for you anything ?

4 pumps normal ?? not that i've every heard off. usually 2 pumps max
my own is hard on the 2nd pump and same with my toyota.

common places for leaks is the primer pump itself, fuel filter seal and injector return thats under the rocker cover.
fuel connections on the tank should be easy enough to check.

also check the tank vent valve is working. if its blocked you will get similar symptoms.

Car is booked in to nissan tomorrow.
I mentioned the 4 pumps to get primer hard and nissan guy thought that was about normal.
It could be that the new primer is faulty. Its only 3 months old.
Anything is better than a fuel pump .
Stay tuned
Thanks for your help guys

just popped out and checked mine. its solid on the 2nd pump. 4 pumps, something has to be wrong. your either sucking up a lot of air in the fuel (rough roads with low amount of fuel in the tank), air leak in fuel line before filter and fuel is draining back to tank or leak after filter.
its very rare on a fairly new vehicle to break a primer so the only reason you would change the primer is you suspect its leaking. sounds like they found you had an air leak and have tried to fix it. thats why i'm so suspicious of a leak.

also if its a leak, fuel doesn't always come out but air can be sucked in. i would get them to double check the injector returns, its not an easy job but they are known to fail there.

let us know what the stealaship thinks. good luck

The nissan people could not find a fault. It threw the inj pump code .So they checked that out and deemed it satisfactory. They put clear hose on the primer/filter and noticed air bubbles but not more then normal for a navara .
After that it did not throw any codes so they are giving it back to see what it does over the next week or so.The bill was under a hundred bucks which was a pleasant surprise.
I am not sure exactly what they checked out.I will ask.If it continues I will change any line that is in the fuel system and after that get them to have a more consice(expensive for me) look at it.
Bloody car.It must be a female one. There is something wrong but you just can't work out what.

Just clearing the code wont fix it (well it shouldn't) go give them another ring and find out for sure just what it was that they did for you, and what if it happens again , will you be charged again for them looking at should the fault return.
Porous fuel line hhhmmm maybe but I doubt it
Does the D22 engine have a learning curve preset like the D40 has?
