Ok all down hill will make the reading much lower, I have adjusted the steinbauer unit to 70% but have left the scan at 38.1% once the fuel gets to the low level light , in my case that is 25L to go I take my reading at that point.
However as I'm about to do the change over to S oil, I will have to flush the oil system first before adding it to the engine,
Most of my driving is in the hills, like you 14/100 sucks on the flat its better, last year I added a tank of Bio diesel and since then my fuel rate is up, not only the oil flush but a good fuel system cleaner as well ADF is what I will be using and the the Cetane booster should give the diesel a more consistent diesel cetane rating, Cetane is the Octane rating for diesel fuel, most diesel cetane is around the 45/50mark and I believe the new BP diesel is around 50/55 see specks , if anyone has used this fuel, the first thing they will tell you just how much better and smoother there vehicle is running , but at some 6/8L more it soon adds up, one bottle of cetane booster is $9 and this treats 700L do the math. Haven't you ever noticed after you have fueled up that there is more black smoke after driving a few k's down the road? congrats you just got a bad load of diesel fuel and be shur to come back soon and get some more NOT It takes time to find a servo that you know has decent fuel, once you have found it stick with it this is what I have been doing

I should do the engine flush and oil change first, run a tank of fuel and see if there is any change, although the change would be minute at least the engine is getting better lubrication, so I think I will do everything at once and this way a noticeable change (if any LOL) should be seen

I'm away for 6 days at the end of next week and will not be driving the vehicle so i guess most of the testing etc will be done the week after

Tweak'e
To your knowledge do you know if the CRD injectors are a throw away unit or are they overhaulable ?

no offence guys but i wouldn't trust any info thats derived from the ecu. they are notorious for being inaccurate. how much fuel you put in your tank is far more accurate.

CRD injectors ...... afaik they are throw away, including the fuel rail which is changed along with injectors. not sure about fuel pressure sensor.

watch your fuel quality. a few of the patrol guys are fitting pre water filters due to some of the crap fuel they have been getting in OZ.

Hi Everyone
OK let see normally I would admit to something like this BUT, after having made the oil change and added the fuel system cleaner and cetane booster 500kms ago, the first thing that you notice is how quiet the engine is on start up and it runs smoother than before, next thing I almost get a ticket from our local coppa and only after I explained to him why I the speed was up did he let me go.

This is what happened the day (dont laugh either) I dropped the oil and filter with the better oil, I went for a drive just having change to oil etc, normally I go by sound and listen for engine noise that comes in at certain RPM range, when I got to where the engine noise normally is I had a look at the speedo only to see that I was 15kmh over the limit in an 80 zone, bugger blue light up ahead gggggrrrrrrrrrrrrr. ""Where is the fire was his reply"" I normally have a answer for everything but not this time. There is none I replied, as he started to pull out the little book, I just changed to a Full Synthetic oil I said and the engine noise now came in at a later time (higher RPM range) , due to this the engine must be running freer, not having to work as hard hence the speed increase HHHHMMM your not pulling my leg are you ME LOL not this time , you can come back to my place and see the old still warm oil if you like!!! There was a stare in his eyes that would melt ice, the book closed as he said off you get, next time try using the speedo OK !!!

Since then it has been quite unreal in the way the Nav sounds and runs, within 150km from the change and cetane booster there was a noticeable power change, I suspect that the injectors now had a better spray pattern and atomizing the fuel better, the economy has come back as well from 12.2LHK down to 10.8LHK on the scan gauge for the tank reading but yesterday's reading I got 9.8LHK for the day around my area its hilly and a normal day would be 12 something

Time will tell if it has resolved my fuel issue or not but at the moment with the 150L tank the needle usually moves of the top mark around the 280/300 mark this time round it got to 360 before it dropped below the line, this is where it used to be before I added 50L of BIO Diesel to a tank, making me think all along that it may have partially blocked the injectors.

Over all I'm a happy camper again

PS; happy mothers day, to all you MOTHERS

Good story about Officer plod.

Makes me think that yesterdays oil change should have been with something similar to yours.

What cetane booster are you using?

cheers

This what I ended up using see links above , after doing some research about what to use.

Cool

Hi Martin,

I switched to Mobil 1 5w/30 on my last oil change and I also noticed how quiet the motor was on start up...................felt quicker to boot.

All the best, Ozroder

Funny how I was ridiculed a while back for even mentioning using a 5W30 full synthetic diesel oil.
