Full Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil

Well I'm going to take the plunge to try to keep on top of this rotten fuel crises that we are entering at the moment, I have order some Full Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil , engine flush , Injector cleaner and centain booster mind you at $10/L for the oil being F/synthetic I will only be changing it every 25k , thinner oil ,cleaner engine , better burn lets see what this will do to the fuel consumption
I will be changing the oil first run a tank of fuel compare to what I was getting beforehand then move on to the cleaner and booster
Will let you guys know if it was worth it or if it was just pissing into the wind or not

5w-30 heavy duty doesn't mean jack.

if you havn't done many kms don't run full synthetic.

excellent
now that we have low sulphur fuel we can use the good oils.

DO NOT expect to have extended oil change intervals. the standard interval is stupidly long in the first place so keep to the standard oil change interval.
if you do not have EGR then you can extend the interval.

At the moment I use 15w40 oil and do a oil and filter change every 7k , I have spoken with several users that run the oil up to 20/25k and all on CRD engines one had his oil tested after 20k and the oil retained its protecting qualities, I had decided to run the oil out to 20k at any rate as most my driving is under load
What do you mean none EGR ? don't think it can be blocked off on the D40 engine!

you should do 10k easy enough, i thought the stock interval was more.

EGR can be blocked but requires mucking around tweaking the turbo to compensate for it being off as the turbo is part of the emmisions system. more common for it to be done on the patrols due to their problems.

Be interested to hear your results and if it affects your fuel consumption much.

I just did a trip from home to the central coast and back. Averaged 8.5 lhk for the trip.

from Sutton forest (near Marulan) till I hit the traffic at Ingleburn the Scan guage had it sitting on 6.9! The best I have ever seen! I have to admit it is down hill into Sydney from there but I was sitting on 110 all the way.

at 8.5L/100k you must be ***** footing it !!!
there would be no way that you could get 6.9L

what % is your scan gauge set at ?

you will find that 38.1% is just about spot on

Hi Martin,

This is where the DP chip and the Steinbauer cause differences. Mine is sitting at 68% with the DP on setting 5. From memory without the DP it was about the 38%. If you change the setting on the DP you need to adjust the Scan

BTW it was spot on when I filled and reset so I have to say that it is working fine. And I calibrated the unit with a GPS to adjust the speed and distance offest.

As I mentioned the road is downhill from Sutton Forest to Ingleburn, so the car was hardly working to maintain 110kph.

When I drive home from work (at Perisher) the road drops about 800 metres over 25 ks so you are coasting most of the way (with a few ups and downs). The scan guage can be down in the 5's (for the current reading) compared to the 14 or so in the morning on the way to work. It is the average that is important. Round here I get around 11.

Cheers

David
