D40 Diesel Engine attempts to stall

Strange little issue i noticed over the the last week in the truck (40K kms), is that when your approaching the lights to stop, and you depress the clutch in the last few meters, the engine hesitates and goes to stall. It never actually stalls but it drops to 400-500rpm.

Does not happen all the time, and does not seem to be clutch related. the clutch does not appear to be grabbing when it should'nt. The car has been in 2wd when this has occurred. Hard to point my finger at what the viable is. Happens with multiple drivers behind the the wheel.

Anyone had any similar experiences?

mine did not only stall but the engine vibrate vigorously and produced black smoke under the chassis, and this happened only 3 days old!!!& my D40 is manual

went to the dealer they told me the clutch was loosen but the weird thing was the replaced it.
Later I heard from my friend who had inside information, the clutch wasn't loose but broke!!due to its high torque, my car was the 2nd accident happened

Nissan Indonesia is quietly modifying all D40 diesel with manual transmission. They are moving the torque from 2000rpm to higher rpm , if I'm not wrong 2200. .

It seems the clutch was not strong enough to handle D40 high torque.

Ive heard that theyve had alot of problems with diesel clutches there just not strong enough but apparently the petrols ones can take alot more and are alot stronger, dont know why nissan would change the clutch on a diesel and make them weaker

It is definiteley the clutch and I am on my 3rd clutch now.............an extremeclutch company aftermarket unit with the solid flywheel conversion and now I am confident to tackle anything.................

When they replaced the clutch I had an issue where the engine suddenly only revved to 3000rpm and Tweake (another member on here) explained that when we select low range the computer automatically changes the system to slow the revs to suit low range and that there is a solenoid on the top of the gear box and he was right...........I pushed the connection together again and no issues since............

All the best, Ozroder

Hello Swissfrontier, Extreme ckutch advised me to go with the heavy duty pressure plate and organic clutch kit 20% stronger than stock.........

Any higher than this and it has a major impact on your driveability and comfort level when driving............

Clutch pedal was stronger initially but I dont notice it now and there is the slighttest of gearbox noise coming up through the stick shift.

Feels tougher/stronger and now more clutch issues..............

Xtreme Clutch - All Australian Clutches

All the best, Ozroder
