I would want to find out some information about the crank before replacing a dual mass flywheel with a solid one, is it designed to have a single mass flywheel on it? A compromise may be to stick with the proper flywheel and use a carbon friction disc?

I'll try and have a chat with ACS for you as I've got to head down to the wingfield area, I also want to check out the LS1 edit place. Unfortunately I have been trying to do it for a couple of weeks now .

The clutch was fit by a friend of the son in law who got the clutch kit from nissan for $1600 (this kid actually died from a brain embolism 2 weeks ago!) so I doubt I will have any come back to Nissan.....................................

A close friend of mine was using my 4wd on a club run to Fraser Island on one of those bush bash trips that raise money for something or other..........................................he is still up on Fraser so until I get a full brief from him as to what happened and how he was treating the vehicle and what the clutch looks like when it come out I will not know much.

I have sent off a request for pricing and availability of the xtreme clutch kits including their 1 piece fly wheel....................and will most likely get a response by tomorrow afternoon and will come back on here with the pricing etc.

Just really disappointing..................................... my 1st Nissan and I really like it but I need reliability so I am having a big re think about going back to a Toyota.....................

I really appreciate all the advice each of you have given on this topic........thats why this is such a great forum..............

I guess I will see what xtreme clutch have to say tomorrow (9hr difference to Oz)

Dean I wil put up prices when I get them

Brutal I am going to look at Wolf website in detail and if it is worth while I will have a clutch flown in but will wait and see what xtreme clutch have to say.

Bigtir thanks for the advice on xtreme clutches................I will go with their 20% stronger pressure plate and the fancy clutch disc..................but this flywheel is a worry...............

Aussie, thanks once more for the heads up on the flywheel............so basically if you put a solid 1 piece flywheel in you destroy the tranny......

All the best guys, Ozroder

Hello Brutal,

The Wolf website is showing a flywheel only ..........for a VQ40, so I am guessing that this is for a V6 engine..........

All the best, OzRoder

^^^^ OZ I forget you guys get the good engine down under.........And for the rest of yall with VQ40 JWT is supposed to have the clutch and pressure plate, just not listed on website. And OZ, while I dont know about the application difference between the 2.5 TD and the VQ40, when you doing more research see iff the part #'s are the same on the flywheel and clutch parts for both, maybe, or maybe not

Finnally got around to calling in the Adelaide Clutch Services. Had a talk to them about the dual mass flywheels. The requirement for a new flywheel is based upon warantry requirements. There is also no specs for acceptable wear limits on the internals of the dual mass flywheel, so it is cough up and pay big dollars. Unfortunate.

I asked if it was an option to use an alternative friction material to decrease flywheel wear. Not a practical solution as the unknown wear limits are just not limited to the friction surface on the flywheel.

Fitting a single mass, personnally I'm unsure about them. One other possible/potential issue is extra stress on the crank.

Extreme Clutch Kit Solid Flywheel Update

I am back in Oz and have taken my Navarra for a quick spin, after the installation of the Extreme Clutch companies Heavy Duty Clutch Kit....20% stroinger than stock with noticeably stronger pressure on clutch pedal but nothing to worry about and it feels good.

Navara feels more responsive................I can hear transmission noise now but it is slight whire sound........motor is still as smooth as ever...........Feels like a 4wd now.................

I am going on a short trip up the hwy later in the week so will update if there are any issues.

All the best, Ozroder

Hello Mike,

Yes, I have actually looked up the unit and think it would be an excellent setup.

One excellent feature is that it is a manual select type....................and what most do not realise is that if the electronic 4wd does not function, you have to have your vehicle towed to the nearest Nissan dealership to have the computer re formatted to be able to drive your 4by again.........interesting adventure if you are say 500Kliks away from your nearest Dealership.............and I actually met a guy during my outback trip last year that had to have this occur.

All the best, Ozroder

One should be able to by pass the computer altogether , find the plug and that some voltage readings when everything is still working , disconnect the plug and hard wire it to a power supply and your 4x4 select function should stay in place unless the gearbox selector switch has had it

I might have a look at this and get back to you all if indeed it can be done or not
