did the oil change and didn't spill much, put mobile one in and used k&n filter. went off with out a problem. thanks to you. redbeard is ready for many more years...i hope

stupid question but i have been using 5-30 castrol non synthetic with a fram filter how do u swtch to synthetic after using regular for over 120,000 miles?

Like you would any other oil change.

For what its worth, different oils have different properties. Since you've been using the same stuff for years apparently, might not be a smart investment to buy synthetic simply because your engine is already that old.

Not that it hurts, but I know from first hand experience that synthetics will really let those worn rings show their age

yea i agree, if you've been using the same oil for a long time (and changing it using it the same oil) it's probably best to stick with it. some people do that and end up with oil leaks and other issues since the motor is so used to using whatever oil was in it and the new oil may not have the exact same properties, especially switching from dino oil to synthetic

thanks for the info. i suppose im kind of lucky only because of the price of oil but really glad i asked before doing it.

ive got 80000 miles on mine- just bought it, and have a 5 qt jug of mobile 1 10w30 in the garage. Ok to put in, or take it back to walmart? I never doubted it until i read the posts above.

That is a hard one...

If you were more like 50,000 I'd say do it. However, 80,000 is high. Do you know what they used before you bought the truck? Is there any indication where they had it serviced?

dont know what they used but carfax showed the oil changes. so probably at dealer.

My vote goes for Amsoil, its expensive but some of the best that you can buy. I get dealer prices so I can get it about $3 off per quart. I also use amsoil oil filters
