It will help to have two people do it but I did mine myself. Becuase once you hear gurggling/air noise you need to turn the truck right away. I took out about 8 1/2 qrts. My manaual says it takes about 9 3/4 qrts.
When I filled the first jug is was a brownish red. When I filled the last it was about the same color red as the new ATF. So I stopped at the 8 1/2 qrts. I did not remove the transmission pan I just removed the bolt for draining and cleaned it off and replaced it. I am not the first person to do this I read up on how others accomplished it first. So feel confident that this should work. |

This write up was for the six I do not know if it is the same for the four. Yes the longer tube pushes and the shorter sucks. I left the short one connected and removed the longer one at the radiator. Then placed the end into a gallon jog. Once the engine is on the fluid pumps out pretty quick. You can get at least 4 qrts out before it gurgles the first time.
After the first extraction I turned off the truck added two qrts through the top fill tube. Turned the truck back on and let a new gallon jug fill up half way. Then I repeated the process. |
