you can replace just the tail part but you gotta change the out put shaft also to a 2wd one. changing out the tranny itself is prob the easiest way if you can get a good deal. the changing of the out put shaft needs to be done at a transmission shop. im sure you could find someone who would trade a 2wd one for a 4x4 one. roastbeef should be able to tell you more, you're essentially doing the reverse of what he did

yes it is, but its smaller and has quick change gears..... and with the limited space that i have i think that changing to a 2wd tranny and doing the profab or scs tranny i get what i need in terms of driveline angles. That is a huge deal with the amount of lift that i have.

pretty much in a nutshell from what I have been reading you will be better off just swaping out transmission due to the input shafts are different and to change them out will have to take apart both transmission. So you are better off with just swaping out transmissions that would be alot less work

that or a atlasII. Heck, you could run it around in low range (4:1) and almost have normal acceleration!

from what i understand i the problem that i will have with the atlas II is space. since my front driveline angle is crazy i need it to drop down 10-12 inches and not move back too much farther due to my subframe for the 4link

to start with...i have a 2wd transmission (5 speed), i'd be happy to sell/trade you.

now, i have not swapped the tails on a transmission, but i understand it to be rather involved. i read a thread about it recently on 4x4parts.com in the SAS section and if i remember correctly, it was more of a pain than a regular transmission swap.

wouldn't it just be easier to built a new custom crossmember to make room for your front driveshaft? i had to do that with my SAS. swapping tranmission and putting a divorced case opens a whole new can of worms. new shifters and linkage. new front and rear driveshafts to start with. and you still have to build some sort of custom crossmember to mount your divorced case.

what do your driveline angles look like now? are you currently even able to run a front driveshaft?

What about a two piece front drive shaft?
