I believe it will take a little more than that.. You're not the first one with the idea, but I think there is reason why people don't without replacing control arms and putting in a shock hoop.. Unfortunately the guy that knew the most on the "hows and whats" went out of business so you will need to talk to Total Chaos. If you go to http://www.nissanoffroad.net/ , the guys from Total Chaos do read and post there--also they have a lot more 1st gen users and info.

It can be done. I was going to do this. You have to buy new upper control arms (any tubular uca's). Then you have to cut out the notch that sticks out from the frame where the bumpstop is to allow the coil over to fit in there. Then you have to build a hoop to mount the coil over and gusset the lower control arm to handle the weight in the middle of it. I believe you can use an 8 inch stroke coilover with a 14 inch 300 pound spring. you must use small body coilovers with no larger than a 2.5 inch spring or you will rub during travel.

2wd i guess it wouldn't be such a task but with 4wd it would be something not worth the hassle in my opinion. its also not going to allow you to add that much more lift. stuff would definitely be under some major stress if you went too far. especially if you were 4x4 and you got it to work. say goodbye to your CV's. as for ride quality it would be nice. try it out. break some new ground.
