Stainless Gibson Rusting?

Anyone have this problem? I paid extra for the stainless because I go to the Pismo dunes a lot, and theres a little surface rust. Any thoughts?

Contrary to popular belief, SS does rust, just not as easily. If it is polished SS, a polishing compound on a rag should get rid of light surface rust (rust specs). If it isn't polished, fine sandpaper will be easier. If you are dead set against it not rusting, get rid of any rust that is on there and paint it with a hi-temp paint.

you can use FLITZ and a polishing wheel to get it off.. and then apply some good wax to seal it in...

The grade of stainless that Gibson uses isn't all that great. In fact, when I was installing mine my brother in law asked, "Is this stainless?" When I answered him "yes that's what they told me" He took out a magnet and stuck it to my exhaust pipe. I was pissed at first but I soon got over it. I'm pretty sure it will outlast my truck anyhow.

i'm sure it will hold up for the life of the truck, but i'm pissed about paying $100 more for stainless over aluminized yet for a true rustproof exhaust i'm going to have to pull it out and paint it. which i could have done with the aluminized finish.

they offer a warranty against rust-through but since it's only surface rust, i doubt they'd replace anything. i would have to pull it out and send it back which seems like a big waste of time and money.

live and learn

my magnaflow is doing the same thing, i wouldn't worry about it stainless steel might get surface rust but thats mainly it, if it bothers you just sand it down should look new afterwards, as long as my tip still looks good and my truck sounds and performs like it did when i put my exhaust on im fine with it.
