Son Looking to get a 1st generation Fronty

Okay ... My son has now picked up the bug because of my 05' NISMO CC 4x4.
Because he's still in High School ... the budget is rather tight.

He spotted a real clean 2000 Fronty, fully loaded SE Crew Cab 4x4 with automatic trans.
Complete with all the factory brush & step guards, roof rack, bed extender etc..
All original paint, no known accidents, clean carfax ... & no rust! (tough find in New England)

Runs great ... no odd noises, rattles or parts falling off!

Now, the negative ... It just turned 105k miles on the odometer.
Question is, what could he possibly expect to be looking at as in repairs & or future maintenance?

Is he going to get in trouble buying a vehicle as such?

Oh yeah ... The seller is firm on $8,000.00

Thanks for any input!
Dana

At 105k, he is looking at a timing belt replacement (according to the service manual).

yeah I would say make sure to get your timeing belt replaced, and change your plugs, and do the matnace on it.. Nissan make the best engines on the market.. I had a 82 Datsun before this truck.. and I wanted it to die so I could get a new truck and it ran good tell I sold it.. the only things that went wrong with it in the 3 year I owned it was muffler, shocks/struts and radator and most of that was 'cause it was over 20 years old.

sounds like a nice truck. at 105K its just routine maintenance. i can't really add anything other than what has already been said, but here is a link to another board i visit discussing the v6's reliability.

good luck!

well even though they say timing belt replacement both my 2000 frontys at 105+K ran strong. general oil changes and up keep and they were good to go. and i dont drive my trucks easy im pretty hard on them. i dont think you can go wrong with a fronty and unless you get one that was just trashed by the previous owner and had no good upkeep on it.

Thanks gang ... Tough to tell on this one if it had been off-roaded at all.
No tell-tale obvious signs like bent sheetmetal & mud flung in remote areas.
Unfortunately it's already a second owner vehicle so even if the seller was telling the truth the first could have been a bit rougher with her.

Timing belt & tune-up I can easily deal with .........

Is $8k in the right price range? ....... Seems fair if you go by the KBB or Edmunds used car values.

The other obvious thing that he'll be looking at in the not so distant future is a tyranny rebuild at some point. Try to find out if it's been rebuilt already, but unless it's specified then i doubt it. Sounds like a decent deal though

if he plans on wheelen it which knowen the young minds he will you might look into a stearing upgrade and yes i know i stress over that alot but when you have been stranded in the middle of a national forest three times because you ripped the stock stearing to shreads then you would stress it more to!
