Solved - dead speedometer and odometer

So it turns out that the replacement VSS that the local garage installed was not right... the drive gear wasn't long enough to mate with the gear in the transmission. Dealer installed the correct genuine Nissan part, and it's fine. Lesson learned.

Cool! I was about to ask about the status. In a weird way I 'm glad it was a bad vss, because it didn't look like anything else could be the problem, after all you did. Congrats

do you happen to know which VSS they used? I'm going to replace mine because I have the same issue, but I don't want to order the wrong one.

or maybe I should just stick to OEM lol

I think the original garage I went to tried two different ones.

I'd suggest you get the OEM part, after my experience.
