small block chevy swap need info

ok so i blew my v6 and now im looking into my truck officially gettying toy status. I have been doing reaserch and found out that the old 80's 300 zx came with t5 transmissions and they where in the old fox bodies and the 3rd gen hard body chevys as well. so under that thinking im fairly certain that I can get a chevy small block to drop in and bolt up to the stock 5 speed in my 01. now befor I go and buy my buddies 305 I need to know the transmission model number for the 5 speed manual in our fronties. anyone know the number so i can look up the company and bolt pater specs?

Please don't assume anything I provide is correct, but FWIW, my '04 service manual shows two manual transmissions: FS5W71C and FS5R30A.

Don't forget about emissions if you have to do that in your area. Plus the ECU isn't going to know what to do with that V8, and you also have the dash harness (which is in the ECU loop) that you're going to have to sort out. Physically getting everything to fit in the Frontier is the easy part, making it all work correctly with the wiring and engine management will be the hard part.

Also, according to Federal regs, it is illegal to swap a motor into a vehicle that does not come factory-equipped in a vehicle within the same year range. In other otherwords, as long as that 305 came from the factory in a vehicle that was manufactured through 1999, then you're good to go. If not, then you are about to undergo an illegal motor swap.

Whether that bothers you or not is between you and your conscience, just want you to have all the facts.

Do you have a source for that? Just curious. I've never heard it before.

No probs. Here you go. It's an EPA thing.

if its a strictly toy trail rig, does that matter? it wont be road legal anymore but it shouldnt make a difference for an offroad only rig.

it might not make a difference for offroad use only, but your truck would have to be registered as soo. my only back up is ive seen a lot of people do Cummings swaps for jeep wranglers which obviously is not original....but other then that i dont know....

305? Ide drop a 350 or prefferably and 383 in before Ide drop that turd in. Hell the new 4.0's in our 2nd gens put out more than older small blocks did stock.
where theres money, theres ALWAYS ways around EPA

ok so here is hat my digging produced. our transmissions/ engines use the ford 4-bolt pattern so dirrect swap is out. however, it appears that the t5 has the same crossmember mounting point as the v6 5 speed. with that being said, a t-5 with a chevy bell housing and a chevy small bock would drop in with custom engine mounts, oil pan(4x4) and possibly shaving down the engine brackets on the frame. also would require having a shop put a gm u-joint on the drive shaft. custom gauges can be made from multiple shops online, an obd2 could be ripped out if you are in an inspection free state like florida. also a 4l80e,6l80e,t56,t350,t400 could be mounted up. for you ford lovers out there. 302 should bolt right up. nissan designed this engine so that they could sell it to ford which they did. so annyhoo chevy swap is possible up to ls3 that i can tell, ford drop in 5.0 or there equivalant to the 6.4. hope my problem becomes someone elses solution for more power.
