ridding truck of smoke odor
To any and all:
The truck I aquired recently does have a notable 2nd hand smoke oder. I plan to steam clean the interior and put some baking soda in the ashtray and on the floor and leave it for a week. Any other ideas? I am weary of spraying chemicals into the A/C vents. I've read some stuff off google and "wikihowto" about doing that and it sends off alarm bells even thinking of it. Thanks for any input. |

i was a smoker and when i quit i used wipes from walmart. in the auto section they are right next to the armor all cleaning wipes. purple pack. 27 in a pack for like 2 bucks. i used them everywhere. seats, dash, console, head liner, seat belts, carpet, etc.
another thing to change if you have it is your in cabin air filter. easy to change. 6 screws if i remember right and $30 at any dealer.

our detail dept uses a deodorizor, but before they had that they sprayed Lysol though the air inlet at the base of the windshield for the ac and heat system with the ac on high and the recirc button off, not only helps to alliviate smoke smell but really good on mold and musty odors too in humid climates. Maybe CT detail has some other ideas too

i know used car dealers will put a bowl of cut up apples in the smelly used cars. i guess if there doing it it must help. but i think the best advice was to clean the sh*t out of it and then deodorize. thats what i did when i had my Ranger, it was full day of cleaning though. i'm glad i don't smoke in my Fronty.

I'm an ex smoker.
If you're looking for a quick fix try an OZIUM spray. Park it, roll up the windows, and spray away. Leave it running with the blower on for a few to get the ducts if need be. Even though I smoked I would get tired of the stale smoke smell of my truck. About once a year I would park my truck in the garage and take the seats out and start detailing. I began by using a spray upholstery cleaner such as Tuff Stuff or Blue Coral. Just follow the can's directions. You can spray it on everything except don't try the headliner. It will not only get rid of the smell but it will also dislodge the tar from the nooks and crannies. Then armor-all, and windex as normal and your interior will be like new. It amazed my non-smoker friends. Get a few cans and plan on spending the day. |

apples work. put 2 apples and cut each apple into 4 pieces and put them in a bowl in front right and left rear or opposite corners. If it is a hot day close windows and the smoke odor should be gone. gl

At the car lot I work for they will dump some fresh ground coffee on the carpets. The coffee pulls the smoke smell into it. We let them sit for a day with the coffee on the carpets then vacuum it out. I also change the cabin filter if the vehicle has one.
