The 3.3 is definitely not the most powerful motor out there, but if you were satisfied with your Taco's 3.0 then the 3.3 should serve you just fine. I love my truck far more than anything I've ever owned or driven. It drives good, it rides good (though mine needs an alignment) and from what I've seen so far it is VERY capable offroad. You won't be disappointed..

Mine is a 99 KC V6 4x4 SE by the way..

Adequate is a term that I would use to discribe the power of my 3.3 V6. With lots of highway driving, I get about 21 mpg. With 65K+ miles on my truck, I have replaced all four tires and the exhaust (cat back) when the muffler rusted out from the inside.

Solid as a rock. I like the smaller size of the 1st gens - it fits very well in the garage! Good luck,

how much difference is there in terms of power and performance between the sc and the reg. v6 ? if any of you have driven both. i also would like to now how they tow. i have a couple toys in the stable 07 grizzly 660 and my sons 250 z. together with trailer under 2,000 lbs. i also tow an occassional pop-up when the job allows for alittle time off.

I've towed atv's and other vehicles when I had to, I'm N/A and I think it has more than enough power with my 5 spd.

If I were you, request to keep the truck for over the weekend if possible. If not then all day Saturday and put it through what you would be using it for. Good luck!

I've got the 01 Crew Cab 4x4 SuperCharged one myself and LOVE IT...

The 01-04 are the same body and personaly i've always like the 01-04 ones better...

The power is on the lower side compared to some things i have driven, but i didn't buy my truck to race... The S/C does help, but there is plenty of power to do what needs to be done even without it...

I have a pop-up camper i tow in the summer sometimes, and usually have my quad in the back while towing the camper as i take it most of the time when we go places... i can tow my camper up hills with no problems... I wheel the truck on a regular basis, and don't have any issues there either...

they are very good trucks, and have a decent amount of aftermarket support too.

i'm comming from the 4.7 tundra. you think i'll be dissapointed with the 3.3 ?
My dad has an '03 Tundra and I have a '00 Fronty with the V6. There is absolutely not comparison between the power of the two. You just need to realize that the Fronty has a small V6 and just take your time. I'm not really in a rush when I drive so the 3.3L does just fine for me. I'd say it does pull my jet ski just(1000 lbs.) as well as the Tundra and I can't really tell its there. The Fronty isn't overpowed like the Tundra but it has enough to get the job done.

thanks guys. you have all responded to my questions and answered them honestly. which i appreciate. some times brand loyalty tends to cloud judgement but, i am certain thats not the case here. kudo's for that.

i am scheduled to test drive an 04 kc 4x4 (38,000mi.)this week-end. i am also still interested in a very low milage(17,000) sc kc 4x4. both happen to be red. the price of the sc is a little more then a want to spend. its 2000.00 more then the reg. although i think i read back in an earlier post that the sc cost three grand. so maybe its worth the extra money.

is there any duribility issues with a sc. i have no experience at all with them. do you usually run in to any problems with them. short or long term. any necessary maintance besides the usual routine stuff ?

Well it costs 3 grand more to do it aftermarket, and that's just for the SC kit and doesn't include labor... However it's difficult to say how much more it was originally because it only came on 2 models. The "SC" is it's own model which comes with 17" rims, possibly leather (can't remember), and couple other bells and whistles, more or less I think it's an SE with bigger rims and the SC but was priced higher than the SE model. In 03 and 04 they had a model called "SVE" which I believe stood for Super Value Edition. This model, while not in vast supply only came in 4x4 and also included the SC , but otherwise was between an XE and SE as far as other options and was priced slightly higher than an SE. I almost bought one of these but couldn't get over the damn pin striping they put on them. If i could rewind time though I might have made a different choice...
