need some info
looking to get as much info out of you as i can. long time toyota owner here . both tacoma and tundra. lease both times. bought the 95 tacoma owned it 9 years. just coming off my tundra lease and decided not to buy it. no real reason. great truck. just like the compact 4-wheelers. well after looking at the prices on tacoma's (whooo) i decided to look at some frontiers. i like the looks of the 04's. anything you guys or girls can tell me about these trucks would be appreciated. should i even concider them. or look at the second gen. 05 or newer. please explain the pro's and cons so i can understand everything. thanks in advance. blitz.
another thing. i am only looking at kc 4x4 with atleast the v6, would concider the sc. any big advantages other then the modest hp gain with the sc. how about long term reliability, ride noise . any big advantages over the basic v6. is it worth the extra coin. i have an 01 which is the same basically up through 04. i wish fuel economy was better, but thats the only complaint i have. the truck drives great, is dependable and seems to hold its value pretty well.
i like the styling of the 01-04 models a tad better than the 05+ years. i do however like the new engine and size (interior) of the newer models.

Love my 03 XE Frontier
I initially bought this truck because it was the biggest 4 door truck I could get that would fit in my garage. I love it though, and am going to try and drive this thing until it disintegrates. Took it to the desert yesterday and beat the pee out of it and it drove home after as smooth as a cadillac.

People either love or hate the look of the 01 - 04 models. Personally I've never seen a better looking truck to date. So I assume you're either looking at an 04 because of the looks factor or for cost reasons.
The 1st gen are smaller trucks all around whereas the 2nd gen (05 and up) are mid size trucks. I'd recommend trying both out if you don't have a preference looks wise. the interior in the 2nd gen are also more sophisticated looking and not as rugged "truck" looking as the 1st gen, again IMO. As for the SC question, you need to use premium 91 octane gas, the SC itself makes a growl, so it's noisier. It does add about 30 more pony's but you'll sacrifice 1-2 mpg and again there's the higher octane fuel and the higher cost of the SC model to consider. I'd think hard about this one because if you decide to not get an SC and later decide to get one put on, it's about $3000+. It's not worth it to me personally, but many have stated that the 1st gen 3.3L engine are underpowered although I've never been displeased. Good luck on your hunt |

i definitely like the looks of the 01- 04. some nice trucks right here in this thread. cost definitely has a part to do with my decision too. i just want something reliable with good performance. i'm comming from the 4.7 tundra. you think i'll be dissapointed with the 3.3 ? my tacoma had the 3.0 and it was adequate ! it had enough pep for a little 6 banger. keep it comeing. i like the feedback.
