what motor do you have? 2wd or 4x4? you can get about 3inchs or so from a Torson bar crank, there are write ups all over this site on how to do it.

yeah I have no clue on the tranny thing, but I'm guessing it's not going to be easy if even possible, not to mention $$

As for lifting, there's a few routes you can go. Max lift you're going to get out of these trucks is about 6 inches unless you go custom. 3 of that being from suspension, the other 3 being from a body lift. You can do one or the other or both as in my case. body lifts are little over $200. I got mine from www.performanceaccessories.com. for suspension lifts the most inexpensive route would be to add shackles, helper springs or spacers in the rear from www.4x4parts.com or www.calmini.com and crank the torsion bars in the front. this can be done for relatively cheap ~$50. Or you can get a suspension kit with control arms, ball joints, etc... for like ~$350+ from Calmini or www.gorancho.com or a full blown kit with shocks too for like $700 which is the route I took.

Let us know if this doesn't make any sense but as Irongrave already mentioned there are quite a few writeups in the 1st gen section if you search for them. Just let us know & welcome to the club

it should be easy, keyword should, but of course as with transferring from 2wd to 4wd you should just sell the truck and buy one with that option. plus the clutch on our trucks is the pickiest ive ever used, and ive driven stick on quite a few cars on my day, even a few work trucks and this one is still the least forgiving and has the hardest shift point to replicate (at least with big feet like mine it is)

I have a truck. It gets me from A to B. Why I spend so much money changing it, I will never know. Is there a cure for this disease? I have no idea what I would be using all my money for if there was a cure.

That's so funny, Id say this is my favorite 5spd ive had. The clutch has the perfect amount of resistance and the stick is solid, so easy to find gears. My roommate has a 02 frontier 5spd and its way to soft clutch basically goes in by itself and the stick has no resistance at all kinda hard since its so floppy.

its easy to find gears, but that damn lever is sooooo long i just want to at least cut it in half or something... and two people that i let try my truck out said that a) it was unforgiving and b) its got a lot of travel!

plus one of them kept going from 2nd to 5th, which wasnt good. i dont think i could flop gears like that if i tried...

there is no 5spd auto tranny. anything over a 3" susp lift is going to be custom. you can do a 3" body lift with it though for a 6" lift to fit 33" tires.
go to 4x4parts.com for a ton of nissan parts.
