i think i've gone like 20 miles on mine, but i'm in an 2nd gen soo idk about the first..

i honestly would think you can get a good ways out of it though.. i watch the needle more than i do the light, once it gets to the bottom of the E dash you might should get worried.

fuel light

When my light goes on I can usually get about 17-18 gal. of gas in the tank. My tank, on an 07 4X4, is 21 gal so 30-50 miles(depending on mpg) before SOL empty. Check to see how big your tank is, then fill it up when the light goes on. Remember that at some gas stations you can put more gas in your truck than others(you can spill at some and not at others) so use the same station for this or calaulating your mpg.

It's hard to tell how far I've went since I've only drove around town through stop and go traffic. I just drive very gingerly, and shift into neutral and drop the rpms to 700 when going down hills. I've made it probably 2-3 days with limited driving.

My first gen with 19-gal tank; fuel light usually comes on when I have about 2-3 gals. left; which is about 30-45 miles. I've driven up to 40 without running out.

I've run the needle down past the last hash mark on "E". I figure you got a couple of gallons left when the light come on, usually around 40 miles or so.

You should never let it run down that low especially in summer. Heat is what kills fuel pumps and they need to be immersed in gasoline to keep them cool.

I can't tell you how many times I have explained this to my wife and yet she still does it so I tell her your paying for the fuel pump if or when it goes and it won't be cheap

When my gas light goes on I have about a gallon lift. Trust me I know it was a long walk on a very hot day in August when I found this out
