Lol, try 115 ambient, and 180F interior temps over here in AZ....and my 02CC still got cold within a minute.

Although I can't say for certain, this does sound like your lack of cold air could be due to the Thermo Control Amplifier (TCA). I haven't replaced mine in 2004 Frontier but I have replaced it in a 2000 Xterra.

One of the symptoms in the Xterra was that it would blow out hot air (yes all the settings were set for cold air for you guys who have issues with setings). Then sometimes it would blow cold and sometimes not.

I checked refrigerant, it was OK. I checked compressor, it engaged properly.

So I got online and found this Thermo Control Amplifier that everyone was talking about.

Picked one up for about 30$.

I replaced it and the owner said the air had never been so cold before. I don't know about just disconnecting it and letting it be; may work, may not, I have no clue.

So where is it?

The TCA is located behind the glove box. Once the glove box is removed the blower motor appears close to the passenger side wall. It is a cylindrical object. Moving toward the driver side, there is a small black box and then a large black box. The TCA is indside this large black box. There should be a red wire and a white wire visible on the outside of this box. These wires go to the thermo control amplifier.

The screws on the back side of the black box are difficult to remove. What I did was remover just enough to be able to pull out the old TCA and then I inserted the new one with a pair of long needle nose pliers. Be sure to remove enough screws, the plastic this box is made from will crack if you try to pry it apart too far. A protrusion on the TCA is inserted into the fins of radiator-type device inside the black box so you need to be able to have a bit of leverage when inserting the new one into the fins and it's difficult to get a hand inside the box.

If it takes 10 minutes to get cold somethings not quite right.

It doesn't take mine long at all to get cold. When I took my truck for the test drive I had the same problem and I told the dealer and they did something and he said a hose was loose. Check all your connections and go from there!

I would get it in to a shop and have them do a pressure test on it. Shouldnt be expensive and will save you in the long run. If he filled it before you bought it he may have either over filled it and blown a o ring(which is common and can be fixed cheap) or didnt use oil too(which needs to be replaced when you charge a system). Just hope that your compressor is not shot. On the up-side, If it is shot you could always just rip it out of your truck and gain Hp and MPG!! then you would have to roll with the windows down all the time though!
