i think 1st gen guys (you included) have more gearing options. the valve tick thing, you might just have to take your valve covers off and adjust them. other than that, might be sol. where were you stationed at over der. i was in taji/all over in '05. welcome home and thanks for serving.

Can't help you with the other stuff but I can say that my 2003 is going in for making too much noise. quiet There is however a TSB for lifter ticking on cold start. The lifters quiet down after three seconds. However, my has ticking sound under the left valve cover. The hardest valve cover to get to. Mine has 54,000 miles on it. Mine has knock/slap after the engine is started and until it warms up. I think mine started this year (I live in the cold north and did not notice it until the temp dropped).

I have not heard of 5 speed trans for these trucks. But I wonder what the path finder has in?

Check out this thread

Engine still sounding bad /w audio

Taking off the valve covers on this truck takes a lot of time. So I am going to see what the Nissan dealer says.

Welcome Home!

there is no six speed tranny for the 04 and below frontys

as for gears, what you got? check your sticker on your drivers side door jam n tell us the axle code

i have 4.3s which is the lowest (tallest in reality) you can go

ur 03 prolly has 4.6s..

if you have a limited slip h233b and its a 4.6 or 4.9 and your 4wd, ill trade you straight up my 4.3s
