'fresh air' vent mod?

I've seen references to opening up the vent intake for the outside air setting on the cabin fan. Mine blows hot air from the engine bay, much hotter than the outside air. I've searched around and can't find the how to thread that is supposedly on here, anyone have the link?

I'm a little confused. On my '04, turning the vent selector to the "dash vents only" setting will allow airflow from outside air (fan position doesn't matter).

If you're having hot air come out of the vents, it sounds like the temp selector is not working properly. I also had a vehicle that had a pneumatic valve that allowed (or stopped) the flow of coolant to the heater core. That valve went bad and no matter what the temp selector was set to, it would allow coolant to the HC and I ended up with hot air out of the vents. I took a quick look through my service manual but couldn't find how my coolant flow is controlled; I'll look some more.

Is this the mod where you punch out some of the plastic on the cowl?

i have never heard of such a mod, but make sure the temp. dial is on the 'cold' setting, otherwise it will put hot air in the cab. (just in case you didn't know.)

i always run mine on the 'defroster' setting, and don't notice any hot air coming in from the vents.

Found it, looks like it was also a service bulletin for 2000-2001 models so maybe it doesn't affect other years.

Xterra Firma (BoarderPhreak) - custom truck mods

I'll give it a shot and post up if it helps at all.

I will do this mod for sure. It gets pretty warm here in FL. Will be good for early spring and late fall.
