Fog lights

I know this question has been asked a lot with 2nd gen Frontys, but haven't seen it with the 1st. Does the XE have prewireing for Fog lights? or would i have to run the wiring all myself?

Thinking about getting some of these Halo fog lights, though I'm not crazy about how blue the halo is. These smoked lights look good, but don't include the switch & wires, so...

best guess is it would be the same answer as the 2nd gens. wether thats a yes or no im not sure. i think it would be wired to an extent, the switch is there, so im sure there is wires from the switch atleast.

I don't think they're prewired..but it's not all that difficult to do if you buy a kit with the switch and all. There's no drilling or anything required, though. I think something like this would work:

They are not prewired. My Dad has a 1st Gen and had to do an aftermarket install. Check my thread on 2nd Gen the install is the same. He used 4" aftermarket lights. My brother did his install and said it was a bit difficult.

What was difficult about it?? Running the wires, installing the switch, installing the lights or all of it?

I'd want to run mine through the parking light wires as well so i don't accidentally leave them on one day... But just imagine, I'd have 6 halos on my truck, lol!

Nothing is difficult about it, here's your game plan i bought a set off ebay like your looking at. The wireharness that comes with them should be in 2 pieces 1 for the engine bay the other for the interior. The harness for the engine bay has the 2 conectors for the fogs themselves, A WHITE positive wire with a 15amp inline fuse, a black ground wire, and a blue wire which goes into the interior. I recomend running the harness on the passenger side and attach the white wire to the possitive on the battery, Attach the ground to the a screw right near the battery (Can't miss the one i'm talking about) mount the relay to the fender right near the battery and run the Blue wire through the passenger side firewall Wire loom and all.

Now on the interior side the harness you will have the following, A Yellow wire with a connector on it if you search my posts you'll find the pic i'm talking about. Since i didn't get the answer i needed i did find out (By trial and error) That the yellow wire is a Possitive (HOT) wire and a black ground wire and a blue wire which connects to the wire from the engine bay.. Here's how i installed the interior:

Put the switch in one of two holes near the stearing column you will need to remove the cover over the stearing column and also remove the cover below that covers all the electrical on the drivers side. Also you will want to remove the glove box on the right side so that you can get the wire through the firewall and into the cab and over to the drivers side. After thats done cut the connector that is on the yellow wire and get a ADD-a-accessory thingy from a local auto store they will run around $10 put it on the left 7.5amp fuse in the lower right corner of your fuse box for Int Acc (This gets shut off when the truck is off ) Install the ground wire and connect the blue wires together. TEST put everything back together and your good to go. Now hoping that the kits provided on ebay are all the same (They look it) you should be able to take these instructions and get it done in an hour. also don't be afraid about cutting a hole in the grommit in the firewall to get the wire/wireloom through. Good luck and send me a PM if you have any problems

Thanks for all the replies, especially you Chaotic

I think I'm going to do this. The set I'm thinking of getting are these HALO FOG LIGHTS. I've asked the seller a couple times if the Halo lights could be turned on separate than the actual xenon bulb, but so far no answer. I assume it's separate wiring for both lights in which case i would think you could wire it up anyway you want. If so could you wire the halos through the parking lights so that they would come on when just the parking lights are on, then you could flip on the actual fog light at any time with the switch. Thoughts??? Would wiring them through the parking lights add too much load on the parking light wires and blow a fuse?

Reading through your description Chaotic, did you wire it up that way so you wouldn't be dependent on the parking lights? Meaning so you could keep your fog lights completely independent?

dcobb, Don't bother with the smoked fog lights. I have tthem fitted to mine and they look good but don't give off much light.
