Quite a few new vehicles have fans that continue to run after the vehicle is shut-off. Living in the climate that I do, this would be a great asset for my truck. Thanks for the write-up, I'll be adding this soon.

I just did this to my truck, only I got two hayden electric fans from checker and removed the stock clutch fan, then hooked them up to a switch this way when the truck is off so are the fans.

I'm not going to lie but the benefits from this mod are well worth it

when removing the clutch fan and replacing it with an electric set up you get some horse power and better gas mileage, and I've been loving it so far

A little info I dug up...

I 've been doing some research on this and the 2003 frontier and the 2003 xterra have the same radiator so wouldnt the mounts be the same? You can get a e fan for an xterra but not for a fronty?

Frontier Nissan 2003 Radiator - AutoPartsWarehouse.com

Xterra Nissan 2003 Radiator - AutoPartsWarehouse.com

Xterra Nissan 2003 Electric Cooling Fan - AutoPartsWarehouse.com

what do you guys think?

It should, but I have a 2nd gen. It's a 14" so it will physically fit in there at the very least and you can always zip tie it or fabricate brackets. My set up is a universal 16" fan and making it work was not overwhelmingly difficult, but it did take time figuring out how to support the fan because I wanted to use brackets (tho zip ties are an acceptable practice).

i don't think any gains will be noticed, because the stock fan is not always running. i will be running an efan shortly as well.

i am expecting a slight mpg increase though.

but isn't the clutch fan bleeding at least a little power away from the engine?

i would think so, even when the clutch isn't engaged it still moves alot of air. Just to move a little air causes friction which causes some power loss.. Im not saying its alot, but it is more than the electric fan not running. Just remember when your electric fans do come on it puts an equal draw on the alternator. So they are good points on either side of this mod, of course i am on the side of the efan....

thats on the ac condensor not the radiator

it helps cool the liquids running through it to make your ac work better and help from getting too hot

and that link you posted about the dual fans, don't plan on seeing a 17hp increase, you'll get some but I highly doubt a 17hp difference

yes, a slight amount

replacing the clutch fan doesn't do much, but I think its worth the small benefit of slightly better mpg/hp
