Driveshaft Bearing

My rubber support bushing is completely shot. I have a 1998 4x4 4 cyl frontier. Anyone know if I can use a d21 unit? They are much cheaper. For a 86-94 it looks identical to mine. Also, one website sells Timken bearing HB6 for my truck (the RWD version). Timken website cross lists this with Beck Arnley PN 1014247 which is for the d21 and looks like mine. But then another site lists this for the d21 RWD and lists the HB13 for a 4wd which is cross listed as numerous Nissan parts. This is all very confusing. Has anyone actually used one of these bearings on a 4x4 4cyl frontier? Thanks

Walter

Nope, stock height. I don't know why it got destroyed so fast. The truck is very clean and has 100k miles, which isn't brand new but its not that much either. I do like to shift pretty hard but its not like I have sticky tires on it anyway, plus its just a 4 cyl. My 240 had about 300whp and I launched it all the time with the stock driveshaft. I would have to say my driving style, but I'm disappointed it didn't hold up.

There seem to be two different styles, and one type is pretty bulky and sturdy. The other (that i have) is thin and weak. I don't know if I can put the other style on mine. It's pretty cheap too.

i woud imagine the yoke would be the same... its more cost efficient for nissan to use as much of the same parts as possible between 2wd/4x4/4cyl/v6/kc/cc/mt/at trucks, you follow?

i believe you can get one from a pathfinder for cheaper, the pathy and frontier are identical, except one has a bed.

I can tell you that I swapped my 2001 bearing off my (then) 2wd Desert Runner onto a shaft from an early 90's D21 4x4. It fit just fine, but I was also using the steel clamshell pieces from my '01. Not sure if the outer diameters are any different.

You *may* be able to use the one-piece 2001-2004 king/crew short bed 4x4 driveshaft. I know the splines will work on the t-case but you might have to change the flange yoke on the axle end to match your original. I think the length is a smidge different from the V6 but I will have to check to make sure it would not be too long. That would fix the problem forever and they can usually be had out of a yard for $100 or so.

Here's a thread on another forum about this issue:

Driveshaft support bearing completely blown out - NissanForums.com

Seems like this isn't uncommon.
