Dash Bulb Replacement part 2

Okay so the bulb behind my Fan switch (all the way to the left) has been burned out for a while...now I remmeber some first-genners here saying it's easy to get at that whole climate control to replace the bulb..but when i asked my dad, he said he asked allexperts.com nissan mechanic, and the guy said its a pain in the @$$. he says its a special bulb that's like $10 from nissan, and that it needs to be soldered into a printed circuit board..which i think is such bullshit because it was 10x easier replacing the dash bulbs on my 91...so heres my question...does anyone here have experience doing this? has anyone replaced their climate control bulbs and could give me some information on what exactly the bulb is, and howto do it? thanks!

Hmm... Wish I knew, but like you I think i remember this topic coming up before. Also it sounds like some fishy Nissan mechanic talk just to get you to drop your car off so they can charge you $200 to replace that $10 bulb.

Quite a while back my kids had stuck money & crap in my center console power outlet and it blew the fuse. At the time I didn't know that fuse was located in the fuse box under the hood and being I couldn't find it in the fuse box in the cab I was stumped. I called 3 dealerships trying to find some answers and none of the service guys I spoke to said "Oh yeah, it's a fuse in your box in the engine area." They all said, "Hmm, not sure but it could be a few different things. You should probably bring it in so we can check it out." Friggin bastards. I have no doubt they would have charged me up the arse to replace a fuse... Just my 2 cents

Edit - This thread may help - Interior lighting

i can't imagine its that bad. probably lots of little screws, but just some big pieces to remove and then you got access the control unit where the bulb is. i just pulled my guage cluster this past weekend and i was surprised at home easy it was. took about 45mns to pull apart and about 30 to put back together. i got the schematics if you need them.

hmm..but like, do the bulbs just go in a socket? or do i have to solder them to the board? im good at soldering, but of course since this truck was JUST given to me from my dad, hes still iffy about everything i do...then again, it was the first brand new vehicle he's ever bought lol so he's obviously still attached to it!

Can't tell you exactly about a 1st gen(or even generally), but I needed to replace a bulb on my second gen ac control( alot of experimenting with leds, killed one of the bulbs when I went to re install it. I was also experimenting with some Radio shack bulbs. I don't have the part number, but it was about $1.50, looks like a little christmas bulb with a red and white wire. It's a little 12 volt sucker. Just remove the controls, pop them apart, then solder one of those in and you're good to go. Can't tell which is the Radio Shack bulb.

so the nissan guy at allexperts.com was wrong? he claimed you had to solder it into the board. if not, then hell, i'll do this in 5 minutes once i figure out the bulb number lol
