clicking sound please help

I own a 2002 frontier desert runner v6 and wince i first owned it it has mad a clicking sound. It mainly only does it when there is a load on the engine likewhen i am accelerating. To me it sounds like it clicks every time a valve opens or an injector fires. i replaced the fuel filter didnt help. It pisses me off so bad, it sounds the worst when i first crank up my truck. It was hooked up to a computer and i was told the knock sensor was bad will a new one of these fix the problem? please please help me

I thought the V-6s had a lot of issues with cracked exhaust manifolds. You're symptoms could fit that problem.

Almost all knock sensors on our trucks are faulty. I have the code too but my truck runs fine. A knock sensor detects if your air/fuel mixture combusts before it is supposed to (Pinging) and then the ECM tries to fix it. Pinging does make a sound. Sounds like marbles rattling around. Usually a higher octane gas will fix it. If you don't think it's pinging, it can be a crack in the manifold but that would probably mean the sound changes as the engine warms up (metal expands) or a valve might be ticking.

I don't think the knock sensor is causing this problem. And I wouldn't bother replacing it unless you are rich or win the lottery

As for the ticking sound, mine does this sometimes at startup but it appears to go away after a few seconds. It could either be a valve or lifter

Get your valves adjusted. I would recommend your local import/eastern asian auto shop.

valves on our trucks are not adjustable. The only way to get rid of the sound is to replace the lifters and then keep replacing them every 50,000 to 60000 miles. unforunately it's something that our engines are prone to.theres nothing really wrong with a little lifter tick it won't hurt anything

im thinking its more of a crack in the exhaust manifold due to the 2001 and 2002 models are prone to cracking where as 2003-3004 models they gained 10 hp due to redesigning the manifolds to reduce cracking all the time i'd take it to the dealer and have them take a listen and look to see if they know what it is.
