Cat Heat Shield

Is it necessary to have the heat shield? Mine is rusted and is rattling all the time and it sounds horrible so I want to take it off. Any suggestions?

its there for a reason, but you could take it off if you really wanted to. it probably won't cause any problems, but im not 100% sure. sorry for the lack of a profound answer.

I took both of mine off atleast 50k miles ago. They just rust and make annoying noises. I have had no issues.

Try wrapping a big hose clamp around it. I think it's there to keep the heat in the cat.

Run it 'till it breaks and fix it faster!

If you really dont want to take it off wrap some metal wire around it and twist it tight. thats the easiest and quickest thing you can do. i just ripped mine out when it started rattling.

I have the same problem but mine fell off in my drive way. I tac welded it on and put a hose clamp around it. It doesnt rattle and seems to be holding up well.

Took mine off right away also. No problem, just dont park over tall, dry grass on a hot day with the engine running!
