Question Brand recommendations for brakes

Hi, everyone. I'm getting ready to change my front pads (and rotors too, I think) and was wondering what opinions folks had about brands.

I don't tow or haul heavy loads, just a regular mix of driving.

01 XE 5spd 2.4L

Thanks!

Oh, and also...special tools? I need a c-clamp, right? I have a small socket set.

I'm in a similar boat as you... I don't tow much, only for now. I'm a 4WD V-6, first gen, and I need new pads and rotors as well.

From what I've seen so far, there aren't any slotted or drilled rotors for the first gens... or atleast I haven't come across any yet. Maybe I skipped over it accidentally.

Tools required:

Now the first time I did brakes on a nissan was my brothers '98 pathfinder. They might be slightly different from the frontier, but they aren't far off if so. There is a retaining ring that will need to be removed, and some phillips screws that hold a spanner nut in place. You might want to make sure your socket set is heavy duty cause some of the bolts were pretty tough to remove on his pathfinder. I'm assuming they will be tough on the truck as well. I think there is a write up for removing all the stuff, try searching for it, and post up if you find it. Rotors aren't as easy on the nissan as they were on my old ford ranger.

Some people pack new grease in their wheel bearings when they're removing stuff for rotors. There is a write up on the forum somewhere you might want to look into. I'm probably gonna do it as well when I replace all my stuff.

Hope this helps.

For basic everyday driving, just go to NAPA and tell them you need brakes for a daily driver. They will set you up with what you need.

ROTORPROS - Performance Brakes - Brake Pads, Brake Rotors and Brake Kits He just quoted me 135.00 drill / slotted with posi-quiet pads. Includes shipping w/ a 2 yr warranty on the rotors.

Just don't take my word though email him and see what he says.

I don't recommend EBC green pads.
