Airbag Light

Well guys my dad's airbag light has been flashing for a few weeks now..any ideas why it would be flashing? It does the normal flash at startup then it continues to flash and doesn't stop. It's identical to my truck (1999 King Cab V6 4x4).

Open the driver's door, insert the key and turn to ON (do not start), then press the door-ajar/light switch below the door jamb at least 5 times within 7 seconds. The light will begin to flash a pattern of 3 seconds on, then a series of 1/2-second flashes, then 3 again, etc. Count the 1/2-second flashes, it describes the malfunctioning part.

i found this on another board. give it a shot.

(2001 and older)
1. Open front door LH.
2. Turn ignition switch ON.
3. Press front door switch LH at least 5 times within 7 seconds
after turning ignition switch ON.
SRS is now in Diagnosis mode.
4. “AIR BAG” warning lamp operates in Diagnosis mode

OR: (2002 to 2005)
1. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
2. After “AIR BAG” warning lamp lights for 7 seconds, turn ignition
switch “OFF” within 1 second. Remove key.
3. Wait more than 3 seconds.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 three times.
5. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
SRS is now in Diagnosis mode.
6. “AIR BAG” warning lamp operates in Diagnosis mode

Note the pattern of the blinking (X long blinks followed by Y short blinks) and the number of short blinks will indicate what it is complaining about:
1 is the driver's seatbelt pre-tensioner
2 is the driver airbag
3 is the passenger seatbelt pre-tensioner
6 is the crash zone sensor on the radiator support
7 is the airbag diagnosis sensor
8 is the passenger airbag
9 is the passenger airbag deactivation switch

Its not rocket surgery!

That actually seems to have fixed the problem. We tried turning it on a few more times after it did the long blinking in diagnostic mode, and now it seems to have turned off. Thanks a lot!

Well people who had 2nd gen mentioned resetting the ECU fixed this problem. I can't find the thread where people complained of the blinking airbag light (might be in this thread below), but apparently after resetting the ECU the blinking airbag light problem went away.

Link - For those getting LOW MPG

Edit - I see you fixed the problem, nice job

Yeah the first time we had it in diagnostic mode and it never gave us any short blinks, it just blinked long blinks and cut off. So we turned the ignition off and it didn't come back on. If it comes back, we'll try the diagnostic mode again and if that doesn't work we'll reset the ECU. Thanks for the help guys, especially the quick help..

Looks like 8 blinks is the passenger airbag.
