ABS light

The ABS light starting coming on while driving recently and all the manual says to do if this happens is take it to a shop soon. Has anyone else had this happen and, if so, what was the cause? I checked my brakes and they are fine (plenty of wear left). It hasn't affected my braking (yet) and I don't want to take it to a service dept just for giggles, so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

hows your fluid level?

check all of the sensors around the wheels and make sure everything is tight and in place.

Fluid is fine but I haven't checked the sensors (and I don't even know where to look). I will check my manual and see if I can determine where the sensors are and check them. Thanks for the tip.

the front ones are on the calipers. not hard to find.

the rear ones i am not sure, but you could look for the wires and follow them back.

90% of the time this means the sensors are soaking wet. also, if you ahve a shotty alternator, the abs light will come on....happens to me all the time, the truck doesn't have enough power for the abs to "pulse" like they should, and hte truck lets you know this....most of the time you can kill the radio and headlights (during the day) and the ac for a little bit, let the battery pull some power nd it will go off. also, if they ever get dirty from offroading, the sensor will think its jammed and not functioning, when all its needs is a washing.

Mine came on after wheeling a few weeks back and was comming on everytime i started the truck....

I pulled each wheel off and there is a black abs line that comes down that on mine even says ABS on it... Just make sure its all clean, dry, and make sure all connections are good...

My problem was fixed after doing this... I'm not sure exactly which censor it was, or what the exact problem was, but after a solid clean up... i was good to go...
