The only thing I can think of is gearing, I don't know what gears my truck has but I know they are too big. I'm trying to find some 4.56 to swap in to my 4 cyl 5 spd or sell the truck.

Try a DIY short ram intake.
Just take the stock filter out. Then remove the resonator/water box on the driver's side of the truck and attach a good cone shaped filter to the end of the tube that leads to the intake.

I did this before I got my Weapon R intake.
It cost me about $20 for a slightly used K&N off e-bay which I resold for about $25 after I bought my Weapon R intake !

theres a few simple things

Headers, 2.5" exhaust piping with a high flow cat (or no cat) with a performance muffler. K&N air filter, better spark plugs and wires, throttle body spacer, and a electric fan would all greatly help!

headers are 180 bucks
http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/...83c1962abe1c18

have your muffler shop custom build you an exhaust, its much cheaper than buying one. should be about 100-200 bucks to have 2.5" piping bent and welded on. then you will have to by a performance muffler 50-200 bucks just depending on your deal and hwere you buy. and then a high flow cat (legal and about 100 bucks) or go catless (illegal and free and more hp)

so for around 500 bucks you should be able to do a full 2.5" exhaust from engine back. thats good for atleast 25+ hp id say.

then doing the intake mod like said above, im guess around 50 bucks, but if you can do it or 20 like him more power to you! KN filter could bring you up to around 30+ hp and your around lets just say 550$

spark plugs no clue on the cost couple bucks per plug although there are some spart plugs than can cost up to 20 bucks a plug. and then spark plug wires which are about 100 bucks
http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/...83c1962abe1c18

so now your at about 675 bucks and still about the same hp. sparkplugs and wires can help and should be done on a high horse power engine, but they arent huge power gaining parts.

throttle body spacers claim 5hp. they are about 100 bucks. but i have no experience with them, some people claim they work great others say they are a waste of money. so you might want to check into that more.

so 775 bucks 35+ hp so far.

then you got an electric fan!
anything that is belt driven from the engine is robbing your horsepower. so if you ditch the stock fan and those belts, and throw on an electric one, not only are you getting better cooling but your saving that stolen horsepower. i think ive seen em for around 150-300 bucks. as for horsepower im not sure. im going to guess low even thou it might help a lot more than i think.

but lets say now your up too $1000 bucks and 45+ horse.

now theres computer tuning. your on your own for this, i know nothing about this company, brand name, or product for this truck. but here it is anyway.

http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/...83c1962abe1c18

its 200 bucks and ive got no clue on horsepower gains. im great with diesel chips but not htis lol.

so 1200 bucks and ill just say 55+ hp. maybe a lot more depending on that chip who knows what it really does...

now if your serious about cranking out HP. then theres some more tech stuff. cams, rocker arms, pistons, things like that. can be pretty pricey but will pull some serious hp out of your truck.

http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/...83c1962abe1c18

theres some cams, 550 bucks but 15% power increase.

so all of that (not including pistons, rocker arms or any of that)

that would be around 1800$ and probably 70+ horsepower over all.

best guess anyway, i might be way off. this deff isnt a engine for making power.

there probably better ways to spend 1800 bucks, but thats one way. i wouldnt suggest wasting your money on it, just drive it till it dies, and do something else.

Not to argue with you, but I really doubt you will get that kind of power. 55 hp is a big hp increase, you might get mabye half of that. I say that because in my integra I had Intake, header, exhaust, no cat, spark plugs, wires, and programed ecu. and all together it made the power a little more noticible, but no where near 55 hp.

Why not go to the 240SX forums and see what kind of numbers they are getting, they have a simular version of our engine.

I still think gearing is the best bet especially for mytruckisslow

you prob got more than you think.

first off what did you do for a exhaust? im only concerned cuz most the kids around here think that putting a ebay muffler and gutting the cat thinks thats a "exhaust system" and that doesnt really do them any good, prob more harm than good.

if you do a real exhaust all performance from a goodbrand like borla, flowmaster, aero or something then its going to help.

and then what kind of chip did you have? what was the chip ment to do?

im not saying you could pull 55hp but im pretty positve you could pull more than 25.

well I had about 7 engines in that car at different times, so the ECU was reprogramed for every different engine set up I ran. it changed the fuel maping, timing, rev limiter, and vtec engaging points (on the vtec engines)

my first set up was a 50 shot of nos, so I know what 50 hp increase would feel like and I know what time it would run, and trust me I/H/E/ecu it was not 50hp. I also ran a 100 shot direct port wet into a high compression LSVTEC bored to 1.9 with a close ratio trans, and let me tell you that was sick fast.

There are some magazines that dyno the products, and I/H/E on 4 cyl NA cars get about 10-18 hp increase to the wheels.

The reason the frontier has 143 hp, but the 240sx has 155hp is because of the intake manifold design and smaller throttle body, and cams. The manifold design on the 240sx is way better, it has a bigger throttle body, and not as long intake tubing. I'm sure the 240sx mani will bolt on the engine, but I don't know about any of the emissions stuff. That said, an injen intake made 12 more hp at the wheels on a dyno, and a 3 inch exhaust made about 8 more whp on a dyno. I would say, add the 240sx intake mani and intake and you are up from 143 to 170, then the exhaust and you are at 180 at the crank, an ecu and afpr would greatly improve this even more, to maybe 190 at the wheels. Cams and a header, an msd 6a ignition, and you are getting above 200hp. I think you may be able to fit a 240sx lightweight crank pulley to it, but you would have to modify it to fit the v belts that the frontier has, or you would have to switch all the other pulleys to the 240sx ones. I don't even know if that would work for sure but I may try it sometime.
