4x4 Conversion

I want to convert my '04 Crew Cab LB 4x2 to a 4x4. What is required? I know that a couple of you have done it, I just gotta do it too. Buying a 4x4 is not an option at this point so the conversion is the obvious choice.

I can not see how SAS is cheaper or easier. IFS is all bolt on and it is possible to get the parts cheap when others SAS and sell the parts.

If you can find a wrecked model which you can swipe the tranny and front end stuff then it may be worth it. Buying the parts outright would cost 5k, maybe more...

i have to disagree. i did my entire conversion for less than 2k including fluids, tranny, tcase, and specialty tools I had to purchase.

most SAS projects i know of easily surpassed 2k. usually before installation even begins.

regarding lift options...funny thing is....if does do the conversion and leaves the rear spung under he will then have more options for rear springs and lift than you factory 4wders.

to do the conversion....you will need, new front spindles, hubs, front diff, cvs, front diff cross member, new tranny, new tcase, new shifters, new interior pieces, new tranny crossmember, new rear driveshaft, lots of gear oil, lots of grease, a ton of very specifically sized nuts and bolts (if you don't have the originals) and a good amount of time and good friends. i don't think doing the conversion is for everyone, but it was totally bolt on and took me 2 weekends to do the install. the front end was more work than the tranny and tcase, but the tranny and tcase are heavy!

onlyonedr was the first to do the conversion and he helped me out. check out his home page. it has some useful info.
