I would say go with a lift and a locker on your truck. I had an 04 XE 2WD and I never got stuck. Instead of doing a conversion I would personally probly just buy a new truck. Depending on how much you use 4WD and where you are located it might be a waste. I would probly just do a locker and you'll go damn near anywhere.

I was looking into converting my truck into 4wd drive .And this is what I found out it will run you about 2 grand to do it. And for 2 grand you can buy a 90-95 pathfinder with 4wd that you can make into a trail rig and not worry about trashing your truck. Besides you can get some sick flex out of these pathy's. This is the route I am going to go

You found a WD21 for $2k? Show me where, they are like $4 here. And then you have to maintain them.

I sent you a pm. I also will have an arb for sale in about 2 months when i do my sas. What rear end do you have... does it have a diff cover or not? The 4wd swap can be done for less than 2k easy. I have the front parts for 350 and then a transfer case can be picked up for about 150 (there are 2 for sale on the noas4x4club.com website) Then a used trans for about 6 -8 hundred THen you just need linkage crossmembers (which are plentiful) and driveshafts. You should be able to find a front driveshaft from someone who did a sas and the rear you can find on carpart.com. You could go the sas route but it's quite a bit more expensive especially if you have to pay someone ot do it. The factory 4wd swap can be done in your drive way.

once you tack on the prices for the driveshafts, the interior pieces for the shifters, misc fluids, misc nuts and bolts, tranny crossmember, shipping/travel to get the parts, etc.....you are at 2k.

and take it from someone who has done this....its a good idea to add in another 250 for stuff you haven't thought about yet and won't know you need till you get the project underway.

there was a calmini sas kit with a d44 axle for sale on pirate4x4.com for about $1500 if i remember correctly. that would be the way to go if you are afraid of the work of a sas.
parts gathering is the longest process.

this man speaks the truth!
i gave myself about a $1k cussion doing the rear suspension alone. came close with materials like welding wire, gas, metal, grinder wheels, food, etc...

Just look on craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums they are around you just have to look for them
