2002 Fuel Pump Sending Unit

heres the last time i saw my baby.

so i have a faulty fuel pump sending unit, if you couldn't tell from the title of the thread. apparently there's a recall on mine. heres the issue: i'm reallly far (>100 miles) from a dealer, who will pay $100 of the towing to there. i've talked to nissan north america, and they're suppose to get back to me about an "independent unit" doing the repairs. i'm obviously trying to get them to pay for it. what are the odds nissan will cover

A) for Shervin's (the "independent") to pay for it

OR

B) towing 100+ miles both directions, service car, and repairs....

whos got expericence with any of these things? a "regional representative" is supposed to call me within one business day to formulate a solution. super weak that its friday.....

Yep I saw that TSB when I was looking for a TSB for my EVAP problem. I have fuel vapors leaking from around the fuel pump. Too bad that recall doesn't cover my problem :/ If I were you I'd insist on them paying it. The problem you have is very serious and could've caused an accident. Make sure you let them know how you feel.

Is it a tsb or an actual recall for your vehicle. If your trucks vin is included in the recall campaign then they are required to pay towing to the closest dealership and cover all repairs. Nissan will not pay an independent shop to do the work unless they have a currently trained and certified nissan mechanic at there shop, which is very unlikely. Did nissan north america every send you a notice on this problem? The previous owner, if there is one may have received the notice and ignored it, however if the previous owner went in and had the tsb or recall performed nissan will be off the hook for repair and it will fall back on you to pay for the repair. Unforunately the internet makes me sound like an @$$ the way i worded this but i used to work for nissan and know pretty much how it works.

no, fair enough. any info is good info, especially if you used to work for em. no a$$ involved.

if they're required to pay towing, thats were we'll go...what about towing BACK?

i didnt receive a notice(i'm guessing the previous owner may have), but it is an actual recall, based on my VIN.

even if they DO end up paying towing, this basically blows. i'm home till next sunday, and no matter what basically wont have my truck at all.....WEAK.

It does suck to have the vehicle down for that long. I'm not 100% sure about towing back to you. They may be willing to tow it back if they are a good dealer but thats one of those things that is luck of the draw. I do know that if you were in Fl on a trip from BC and the truck died they are required to fix the vehicle at the nearest repair facility and reunite you with your vehicle at no cost to you for repairs and towing. However i'm assuming you are home and that your local dealer isn't so local at 100 miles away. They may look at that and say, well you chose to buy a nissan and chose to live 100 miles away from a dealer so you know that if you need to take it to the dealer you would normally have to make the drive on your own. Good luck with it all I hope it works out. One thing to always remember don't B!tch at them for any reason until your truck is in your posession if you can help it, sometimes service advisors can be a real pain and quite tempermental.

it was a recall and still is. you can only have recalls done at the dealerships no ifs ands or buts. if you have it repaired else where they are not going to cover it. as for the tow im not to sure i was towed almost 200 miles to my dealer out of base warranty but still in my extended coverage when my altenator took a crap after it was just replaced at the dealer. and i know it passed atleast 3 dealers on its way.

its a recall on the fuel sender not the pump. i dont remember the start date but i think its late 99's and it goes to the 2004's. there are 2 diffrent senders depending on your pro date. and there a few that get new gas tanks cause the tops rot out.

hope any of my needless info helped

easiest is call your local dealer with your vin #. they can tell you if your truck is affected by the recall.
