2001 SC SuperCharger

All,
Does anybody know what type of oil the 2001 Nissan Frontier SC's supercharger require?

I belive the SuperCharger is a Roots-type, Eaton M62.

I'm not sure. I was always under the impression that the m62 is internaly oiled, and does not require service. I'm pretty sure that's right, but I guess I may as well research a bit...

but youd think it would have to be oiled again sometime
i have an 01 sc also... so this information would be good to know

13. Is the product durable, safe? The durability of the Eaton Supercharger was the first criteria which was addressed during the designing of the supercharger. Dedicated engineers with backgrounds in compressors, gearing, tribology and metallurgy, as well as thermal and structural analysis enabled Eaton to find solutions to many durability concerns. In addition, customer durability testing employed strict criteria increments of torque and speed. Successful completion of numerous 500 hour durability tests established a firm grasp on achieving a durable product. In addition, numerous vehicles have successfully completed 100,000 mile, OEM, vehicle durability. Improvements in bearing and seal designs also aided in a product which meets all OEM durability criteria. Safety, in turn, follows suit once durability is achieved. The OEM criteria for safety must be designed into the product prior to supplying any manufactured component.
14. Is the Eaton Supercharger easy to service? The supercharger is serviced as two units, the nose drive and the supercharger itself. The rotors are supported by ball bearings in front and needle bearings at the rear The drive gears are pressed into place and require precise timing to achieve proper rotor to rotor clearances. Therefore, the supercharger is replaced as a unit, and is not serviceable.The supercharger also has a self-contained oiling system that does not require a fluid change for the life of the vehicle.

That being said, at the bottom of the page, they sell oil. Made me scratch my head.

edit: To add to that, I keep running across figures claiming that Eaton agrees the supercharger is only made to last 100-125K. I haven't seen any official word on this from Eaton itself, but keep seeing the figure mentioned in random threads. Could be true, could be false.

All I know, my blower went out at 42K. Luckily I was able to get a brand new unit under warranty.

you can get the sc oil at any chevy dealer. nissan dosent service them or sell sc oil. thats why mine blew at 70,000 miles. still under warranty. but no one knows how often you have to do it. i guess its like a rear end. every 60,000. almost same kind of oil. look at the nose of the sc its got a drain fill hole right on the front. suction it out and fill back up to the hole.
i did find a company that sells just the noses a while back for almost 500 better than nissans 1200

My dads 01 S/C has 171k ,and the blower has never been touhed.

My buddy's wife has an '03 SVE with just over 100k and the lobes are started clattering enough to make the knock sensor retard the timing. She is in the market for a new or rebuilt unit.

The "life" of a vehicle in the eyes of a manufacturer is not forever. It is until the end of the warranty. 100k or so is pretty typical of a roots-type supercharger. That being said I would change the oil. Lord knows the mechanical stresses and heat being generated, it really should get a change once in a while.
