Well, I installed all my wiring last night for my camera, and did a test run of it operating. Bloody marvelous! I am just waiting for the adhesive to cure for the mounting bracket, and all will be sweet. Should be fully installed and working tonight.

The camera I used is a new Jacar item (QC3449) and mounted it behind the bumper between in the little opening where the tailgate hinges. I ran all the wiring on top of the chassis rail to the front and in through the rubber grommet on the passenger side (video signal and head unit video switch). I have also used a diode on the reverse light signal so I can (at some stage) apply a 12v signal to the head unit video trigger wire that will turn on the camera and switch the head unit video on without operating the reverse lights.

Ill see about getting some pics tonight when I have finished the install.

Yeah, hurry up. We're thinking about buying a travel trailer, and I'd like to put the camera on the back of the trailer. Dislike not being able to see behind me. Wasn't a problem with the popup, but this trailer is bigger than my truck, lol.

I made up my own reversing camera setup from bits from Ebay
$66 for camera ( no infrared ) from Bashes imports and $120 for elcheapo colour in dash TV from HK. Works a treat actually and you keep the dollar gobblers quiet by letting them watch TV . Well worth the effort. Have plans to upgrade standard sterio to double din dvd player with 7 " screen.
Definately well worth the effort !!!!!

Here are the photos as promised. You can see the tow ball (hitch for you yanks ). The top of the frame is the tailgate lip, and the bottom is the bumper. The point of the image you can see at ground level is approx 1m from the bumper. At approx 0.5m from a wall to the bumper, the image is 1m across on my screen.

Oh, and my garage in my unit block is fairly dark, so the image on the HU is illuminated mostly only with the reverse lights.

About bloody time mate.
You'll have to up grade to a infra red camera now so you can see at night works much better than reverse lights.
I use mine all the time........well when I'm reversing and cant see behind me, and hitching up the trailor/caravan/boat trailor is a breeze.
